Dept of Emergency Medicine at GW Medical Faculty Associates

The Department of Emergency Medicine at George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates offers an internship every summer for undergraduate (sophomore, junior, senior) students to work in the emergency department at GW Hospital enrolling patients in clinical research studies.

Mandatory Freshman PreHealth Advising Meeting

for premedical, dental, optometry, veterinary

MANDATORY attendance is required at this group advising meeting for any current UMBC freshman or freshman-transfer student who is interested in attending medical, dental, optometry, or veterinary school after graduating from UMBC.

From a pre-health advising perspective, you should attend the Freshman Mandatory Advising Meeting if:

This is your first or second semester in college.
or
You are currently enrolled in CHEM 101 or CHEM 102 or BIOL 141 or BIOL 142.

This meeting will address pre-professional specific advising issues for freshmen such as professional school prerequisite courses, grades, standardized exams, gaining research, clinical, and leadership experience. Between now and the meeting, freshmen should acquire a working knowledge of the information on the office’s website. All freshmen students interested in attending medical, dental, optometry, or veterinary school after they graduate from UMBC, are required to attend.

Pre-professional students have TWO advisors–a Declared Major Advisor and a supplemental, pre-health advisor. Please read about the differences between your TWO advisors here. It is strongly suggested that each student meet with their Declared Major Advisor prior to attending the pre-health group advising session. Only your Declared Major Advisor can lift your registration block.

This session will be conducted two times. The same content will be covered in both sessions. There is no need to RSVP. Please save one of these dates on your calendar.

The Dean of Medical Education's Inaugural Academy for Research, Clinical, and Health Equity Scholarship (ARCHES) is a six-week program for eight undergraduate students who are rising juniors and seniors interested in pursuing medical studies. 

All students are encouraged to apply, including those from backgrounds underrepresented in the health professions and those who identify as first-generation college students. 

This program will engage selected participants in:

Clinical experience
Guided research
Immersive service at Georgetown University
Greater DC community on issues of health equity
GUSOM ARCHES aims to strengthen the research and clinical skills of promising undergraduate students and prepare them for successful matriculation into medical school. 
Program Dates & Benefits:

Dates: Wednesday, June 26 - Friday, August 9, 2019

Summer Stipend: $4,000 ($2,000 paid after the first 3 weeks - $2,000 paid conclusion of program)

Housing: On-Campus housing at Georgetown University - Same gender identity, suite style, double-occupancy rooms

Travel: Awarded up to $250 per student on a case by case basis by the Georgetown Office of Diversity & Inclusion

**NOTE** Students are responsible for their own meals/food costs (except for program event meals provided by ARCHES)

Preference will be given to permanent residents of the District of Columbia (DC).

The Uniformed Services University would like to invite you and your pre-health students to learn more about health careers.  We are hosting the Military Medicine Pre-Health Fair, occurring in conjunction with the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States (AMSUS) meeting at the Gaylord National Harbor.  The pre-health fair for interested students will be held on Friday, November 30th from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. 

In addition to military physicians, we will also be welcoming members of a variety of health professions, to include nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians assistants, dentists, optometrists, veterinarians, physical therapists and more.  We will have plenary talks focusing on different military medical careers and we will also have medical simulation equipment on hand as well as trauma demonstrations.

Come join admissions representatives from Johns Hopkins University graduate schools who will offer tips and resources on how to find the right program to meet your personal and professional goals, successfully navigate the admissions and financial aid process, and help you prepare early to be a successful graduate candidate.

After a brief presentation, representatives will be available to speak with students one on-one about program offerings and answer specific questions.  The following will be represented:
