Georgetown's ARCHES program
The Dean of Medical Education's Academy for Research, Clinical, and Health Equity Scholarship (ARCHES) is a six-week program for ten undergraduate students who are rising juniors and seniors interested in pursuing medical studies.
All students are encouraged to apply, including those from backgrounds underrepresented in the health professions and those who identify as first-generation college students.
This program will engage selected participants in:
- Clinical experience
- Guided research
- Community Based Learning at Georgetown University
- Greater DC community on issues of health equity
GUSOM ARCHES aims to strengthen the research and clinical skills of promising undergraduate students and prepare them for successful matriculation into medical school.
Program Dates & Benefits:
Dates: Wednesday, June 26 - Friday, August 9, 2019. Move out day is Saturday, August 10th.
Summer Stipend: $4,000 ($2,000 paid after the first 3 weeks - $2,000 paid conclusion of program)
Housing: On-Campus housing at Georgetown University - Same gender identity, suite style, double-occupancy rooms
Travel: Awarded up to $250 per student on a case by case basis by the Georgetown Office of Diversity & Inclusion
**NOTE** Students are responsible for their own meals/food costs (except for program event meals provided by ARCHES)
Preference will be given to permanent residents of the District of Columbia (DC).

We are pleased to announce that we are now accepting applications for the 2019 Adventures in Veterinary Medicine (AVM) program at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University.
AVM is an exciting and intensive program where participants can explore the wide variety of careers available within veterinary medicine and discover first-hand what it is like to attend veterinary school.
For students who are trying to determine whether veterinary medicine is the right career path, AVM is a great way to gain a deeper understanding of the profession. The program is also helpful for students who have already decided on a future in veterinary medicine, as it allows them to experience life as a veterinary student and explore opportunities within the field. Many of our past AVM participants have successfully gained admission to veterinary school both here at Tufts and at other schools.
During the week-long session, participants will
- investigate the different specialty fields
- spend time behind the scenes in our hospitals shadowing veterinary students
- gain hands-on experience working with our teaching animals
- learn about our admission and financial aid process
- and more!
We offer two sessions for college students as well as a session for adult, non-traditional students.
Adult Session 2: April 29–May 3
College Session 3: June 3–7
College Session 4: June 10–14

Research Assistant position at the FDA and University of Maryland Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences
Dr. Osamah Saeedi at the University of Maryland Department of Ophthalmology is looking to hire a full time research assistant to work on advanced ophthalmic imaging, mainly at the FDA in Silver Spring, but also at the main campus in Baltimore. The research assistant position is appropriate to start either part time or full time by February 2018. This is a 1-2 year position for current graduates or graduating seniors. The position involves imagin and interpretation of imaging of a new form of ocular imaging, adaptive optics. Applicants will gain valuable research experience and this work is expected to result in authorship of multiple publications. Research Positions at the University of Maryland Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences
Dr. Osamah Saeedi at the University of Maryland Department of Ophthalmology is looking to hire two full-time research assistants beginning May 2018. One position is focused on clinical research coordination for the entire department and the other position is primarily laboratory research related to ongoing studies in ocular blood flow.
