Ohio State Optometry I-DOC
The 13th annual I-DOC (Improving Diversity in Optometric Careers) program will take place on the campus of The Ohio State University from July 14-17th. I-DOC is an intensive four-day residential program that introduces participants to the profession of optometry. The purpose of I-DOC is to attract ethnically underrepresented minority undergraduate college students to careers in optometry. Applications are now available at http://go.osu.edu/I-DOC2019 and will be accepted through May 3rd.
Thanks to underwriting by Vision Service Plan (VSP), there is no registration fee for the program. Also, all meals, housing, airfare, transportation, and activities are included. Thirty students from across the United States will be selected to participate.

The National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA) will be hosting a FREE Pre-Health Conference Fair on Saturday, April 13, 2019, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, VA. The NHMA College Health Scholars Program Pre-Health Conference & Recruitment Fair is open to all students who are interested in pursuing a graduate health profession. We currently have over 40 recruiters attending the event. During the raffle portion, we will be raffling out various prizes to students, including MCAT guides and other study guides.

Social Sciences Forum
The department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Health Administration and Policy, along with the Center for Social Science Scholarship, will be hosting Dr. Utpal Sandesara, from the University of Pennsylvania, a clinician and anthropologist who studies the uses of reproductive technology and the use of sex-selection in India. He will be giving the Health and Inequality Lecture on “Sex-Selective Abortion in India: Victims, Villains and Other Ways of Seeing the World” on Thursday at 4:00 in the Library Gallery (see below and attached).
While he is on campus, Dr. Sandesara has also agreed to talk informally with undergraduate students who are interested in combining medical school and social science doctoral programs from 12-12:45 on Thursday in PUP 204. Lunch will be provided by SAHAP and the Center for Social Science Scholarship.
ABOUT THE SOCIAL SCIENCES FORUM
Founded in 1999, the Social Sciences Forum brings distinguished social scientists to campus each year to present cutting-edge research on topics of vital interest to the social science community at UMBC and beyond. Lectures are free and open to the public, lasting approximately one hour, followed by Q&A and a reception.
