All majors are welcome and no previous experience is necessary. Just come out with an open, curious mind.

UMBC's Model U.N. team helpsbuild one's knowledge regarding the culture and governments of countries around the world. Overall though, Model U.N. helps one understand the inner workings of the United Nations.

UMBC Model U.N. team is planning on attending the next NMUN Conference in New York from March 27th to March 31st in the Spring of 2016

The research center START, which is based in College Park, is offering many internship positions for Spring 2016. Ranging from terrorism ideology and defense policy to CBRN research and GIS remote sensing projects, START is a top tier research institution with an extraordinary staff of subject-matter-experts (SME's) and many connections with various federal agencies, DoD, Intelligence Community, private sector, and foreign organizations. The priority deadline is October 30th and the final application deadline is November 13th. Another volunteer opportunity for you. UMBC political science major Marc Szczepaniak is managing Scott Goldman's campaign  in the  Democratic primary for Baltimore City Council's 1st district race. The 1st district encompasses the beautiful neighborhoods of southeast Baltimore. Volunteers will help with canvassing, and organizing and staffing campaign events.

Another volunteer opportunity for those interested. UMBC alum, Samuel Fisher, is the Campaign Manager for Ed Marcinko, who is running for Baltimore City Council's First District. They are looking for volunteers too help out with canvassing, data input, phone banking, organizing volunteers and staffing campaign events. The First District consists of Fells Point, Canton, Little Italy, Bayview, Graceland Park, Greektown, Brewers Hill, and a couple more historic city Neighborhoods.

Kathleen Matthews for Congress

Do you want to be part of the grassroots effort to change America, but
you're not sure how to get involved? Come intern for the Kathleen Matthews
Campaign! We are seeking passionate and energetic applicants who want to
learn how campaigns work, how to run them, and help elect the next
Representative of Maryland's 8th Congressional District.

There is only a small time requirement to be considered an intern with our
campaign, and your schedule is set by you. Being part of the campaign team
is like gaining another family, and our struggles and triumphs are shared
collectively. Come Election Day, you'll walk out with a ton of new
friends, professional networks, and a full understanding of how to run
your own local grassroots field program.

In addition, we are offering a fellowship program for those who are
looking to take their involvement in the campaign to the next level. As
such, there is a greater time commitment required than interns, but
fellows will be privy to our Field Organizer Training Program. The goal of
this once a week seminar is for fellows to leave the Matthews campaign
ready to work on, and eventually run, their own campaigns in the future.

The Matthews Campaign internship and fellowship programs are designed to
be an enriching educational experience where participants will engage in
daily field activities, learn from and have access to seasoned campaign
staff, and hear from a variety political guest speakers.
