<Title>INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><span>Academic credit for this internship</span><br><span>is available through POLI 448. Contact Dr. Laura Hussey (</span><a href="mailto:lhussey@umbc.edu" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">lhussey@umbc.edu</a><span>)</span><br><span>for information.</span><br><br><span>Description:</span><br><br><span>The Phase III Chesapeake Bay Watershed Implementation Plan (Phase III WIP)</span><br><span>has been in a planning stage for most of 2018 and must be finalized by</span><br><span>August 2019.  The intern will assist with the compilation of data and</span><br><span>technical documents as well as drafting of the Phase III WIP.   In</span><br><span>addition, the intern will be expected to assist with addressing comments</span><br><span>from the April/May 2019 public comment review process of the Draft Phase</span><br><span>III WIP, which are expected be numerous and from a wide spectrum of</span><br><span>stakeholders, including individual citizens, local governments,</span><br><span>environmental groups (NGOs), all the way up through the Governor's Office.</span><br><br><br><span>Provide assistance with researching issues that are the subject of</span><br><span>legislation introduced during the 2019 legislative session.  Occasionally</span><br><span>issues arise that are unexpected and we need quick research conducted on. </span><br><span>For instance, a couple years ago legislation was introduced on microbeads</span><br><span>in personal care products.  Our intern quickly researched information on</span><br><span>the latest science, national trends, and legislation throughout the</span><br><span>country and world.</span><br><br><span>Regulations - regulation promulgation is placed on hold for approximately</span><br><span>the first two months of the year while the legislature is in session. </span><br><span>However, we continue to work on regulations so that once we are able to</span><br><span>submit regulations again they are ready to go.  The intern could assist</span><br><span>with some light research of COMAR and assist in drafting regulation</span><br><span>packages.</span><br><br><span>Qualifications: Juniors and above with interests in State and local</span><br><span>politics and environmental</span><br><span>policy and strong writing skills.</span><br><br><span>Send resume and a cover letter that includes information about personal</span><br><span>interests and career ambitions to:</span><br><br><span>Heather W.     The Internship</span></strong><span></span></p>
    
    <p><span>Senator-Elect
    Clarence Lam seeks a Communications and New Media Intern to assist his office
    with its legislative, constituent outreach, and community advocacy activities.</span></p>
    
    <p><span> </span></p>
    
    <p><span>We
    are seeking a highly motivated individual who is familiar with all forms of
    media and social broadcast services and is comfortable working with digital
    media files, navigating and uploading them to content sharing and social media
    sites, and video production.</span></p>
    
    <p><span> </span></p>
    
    <p><span>The
    ideal candidate has good research skills, is adept at using multiple social and
    traditional media platforms, and can create social media infographics and
    charts using the Adobe Creative Suite of design products or similar programs.
    In addition, the candidate should be a good writer, and have some experience
    working on a website’s back end content management system (CMS) -- Photoshop,
    Dreamweaver, Wordpress, etc. Successful applicants are people-oriented and
    excel in roles that call for imagination, rigor, attention to detail and
    creativity.</span></p>
    
    <p><span> </span></p>
    
    <p><span>Direct
    responsibilities of the intern include the composition and scheduling of daily
    postings, general maintenance and upkeep of the Senator-Elect’s online
    presence. The intern will also perform social media outreach, manage and update
    the Senator-Elect’s social bookmarking and networking site accounts and
    profiles (ie Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and on our website. Intern will also
    assist in drafting and designing a weekly newsletter to be sent to constituents.
    Depending on experience with web-based systems and graphic design applications
    and coding knowledge and interest, the intern will have the opportunity to work
    with our design team on the rebuilding and rebranding of our website and other
    social media design activities.</span></p>
    
    <p><span> </span></p>
    
    <p><span>Applicant
    should have experience with video production and editing, or willingness to
    learn need skills. Intern will be responsible for recording videos to be posted
    on the Senator-Elect’s website and social media platforms. Experience with adobe
    premiere or other similar software preferred.</span></p>
    
    <p><span> </span></p>
    
    <p><span>Intern
    will receive a stipend to assist with transportation expenses.</span></p>

    <p><strong><span>Requirements</span></strong><span></span></p>
    
    <p><span>We
    are seeking an intern to work from January 9, 2019 to April 9, 2019. Number of
    hours per week is flexible, with a minimum of 8-16 hours per week
    preferred. Internship will be located primarily in Annapolis.</span></p>

    <div class="html-content"><p><strong><span>Now accepting applications for:</span></strong><span> </span></p><p><span>U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS)</span></p><p><span>2019 Summer Research Team Program for</span></p><p><span>Minority Serving Institutions</span></p><p><span> </span></p><p><span>The purpose of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Summer Research Team (SRT) Program is to increase and enhance the scientific leadership at <u><span><a href="http://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ocr/edlite-minorityinst.html" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs</span></a></span></u>) in research areas that support the mission and goals of DHS. This program provides faculty and student research teams with the opportunity to conduct research at the university-based <u><span><a href="https://www.dhs.gov/science-and-technology/centers-excellence" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>DHS Centers of Excellence (DHS Centers)</span></a></span></u>.
