I am emailing you to let you know that the deadline to apply for the undergraduate research awards has been extended to May 15th. See the notice below for more information:
Undergraduate Research Awards- Get Up to $1500!
DEADLINE EXTENDED- MAY 15th
URAs provide up to $1,500 to undergraduate students to
support their research, scholarship, or creative work with a UMBC faculty
mentor on an original project. UMBC students of all years and disciplines are
invited to apply, as long as they will remain enrolled at UMBC long enough to
complete the proposed work.

I am emailing you to make you aware that the application for the Fall 2020 White House Internship program is now available. If you are interested in applying for the internship, make sure to see the attached document for more information. Here is some information about the internship provided by the program itself:
The Fall 2020 White
House Internship Program application is now open (Link to application: https://www.whitehouse.gov/get-involved/internships/apply/).
The application portal will remain open until 11:59 PM EDT on Friday, April 24,
2020. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
The White House Internship Program is highly competitive.
Applicants are selected based on their demonstrated commitment to public
service, leadership in the community, and commitment to the Trump
Administration. Questions about the White House Internship Program application
can be directed to intern_application@who.eop.gov. More information, including
details about placements in the White House Internship Program and a list of
frequently asked questions, can be found on the White House website: https://www.whitehouse.gov/get-involved/internships/

2020 Korenman Lecture
Dr. Kelly Dittmar
In honor of the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage,
Gender, Women's, + Sexuality Studies invited Dr. Kelly Dittmar, Assistant
Research Professor at the Center for American Women and Politics, to deliver
the 2020 Korenman Lecture. Dr. Dittmar's work on the way that gender affects
political campaigns will be a timely addition to the variety of programming
UMBC is planning around voting and American political life in 2020, and she
will provide valuable context for the primary elections that will be running
throughout the Spring term. Her talk will be titled "Measuring Electoral
Success: Gender and Intersectional Dynamics in Political Campaigns". A
summary from Dr. Dittmar is below --
The electoral gains for women in the 2018 election were notable, but that
numeric progress was not felt by all women nor did it yield gender parity in
American politics. Beyond the numbers, measuring success in U.S. elections
means considering the ways in which gender and intersectional dynamics that
have created obstacles to women candidates are disrupted.
Dr. Dittmar will be on campus March 10th to deliver a public lecture at
4:00 pm in the Library Gallery.

the time of the event.

Fulbright U.S Student Program Information Sessions

The UMBC Fulbright U.S Student Program is holding 11
information sessions during March & April discussing students opportunity
to study, research and teach overseas. Make sure to come out and attend for
valuable insight in how to be a part of next years competition!
Information from Fulbright U.S Student Program:
You've likely heard that 13 of your UMBC peers were recipients of
the Fulbright U.S. Student award to teach English, earn a Master's degree or
conduct research overseas during the 2019-20 academic year. This year we have
27 semi-finalist waiting to hear whether they will continue UMBC's legacy as a Top Fulbright Producer.
Come to one of 11 information session throughout March and
April to learn how you can be part of next year's competition. Dr. Brian
Souders, UMBC's Fulbright Program Advisor, will explain the ins and outs
of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, tips on deciding which
Fulbright program can work best for you, and advice on making your application
as competitive as possible.
