Looking for a volunteer opportunity? I would encourage you to read about the volunteer opportunities the organization "Thread" has below.
Thread connects volunteers from the community with students
who are struggling academically across Baltimore City. Rather than focusing on
tutoring or mentorship we attempt to build strong relationships across lines of
difference where both our volunteers and our young people are learning from
each other. And we stick with our students for 10 years after their Freshman
year of high school which means that we are deeply invested in their education
and transition into adulthood.
We are a completely virtual volunteering opportunity and
will stay that way until COVID is no longer a concern. We put our time
commitment at 1-2 hours a week but the schedule you make is completely up to
you! As long as you are connecting with your young person once a week and showing
up with honesty then that is all we ask! While our students are with Thread for
10 years our volunteers only commit to a year when they sign on in order to
give our students as much consistency as possible. And we will be accepting
applications on a rolling basis throughout the year!

Crash Course on the Legislative Session

The City of Bowie's Economic Development Office is looking for a summer intern. The internship will be paid position.
Possible Tasks Include:
-Updating the business inventory to include field checking
-Conducting direct business outreach to
assess current business development issues
-Designing and administering a telephone
survey of the broker list
-Updating selected information
publications (research and write)

substantive discussion.

Are you still looking for a final course to enroll in? Consider adding POLI 320: American Political Thought. This course investigates in detail key theoretical arguments and
controversies that have shaped our country by carefully studying the
contributions of a variety of American thinkers. Emphasis is placed on applying
American political theories to current political debates. If you are a main campus student and are interested in taking this fully online course, you will need to fill out a cross campus enrollment form that can be found here:

The NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration) is accepting applications for two different scholarships and summer internship opportunities for students who meet a specific set of criteria. distributing a survey and analyzing the results for their annual report. This
is not a political science survey, but I would encourage you to support their
research surrounding campus food insecurity by taking their survey. See Retriever

This survey is
designed to assess the level of food insecurity and basic need issues among the
UMBC students, faculty, and staff. Your responses will help the research
team in advocating for an increased food access and housing security for
vulnerable members of the UMBC community. The survey takes about 3 to 7
minutes. All responses will be anonymously recorded. Your participation is
completely voluntary. Please DO NOT type your name or UMBC ID
anywhere. If you are under the age of 18 years, you are not eligible to

Course Description:
The Arab-Israeli conflict is one of the longest lasting
conflicts in world history. As such it has impacted not only the people of the
Middle East but also people all over the world. Since the end of the Cold War
many have argued that the Arab-Israeli conflict is one of the root causes of
the on-going crisis between the West and the Islamic world, a clash of global
dimensions. This course traces the history of the conflict from its beginning
during the Ottoman Empire through its many cycles of war as well as the many
continuing attempts at resolution. This course examines the relations between
Israelis and Palestinians, Arabs and Israelis, and among the Arab states. It
looks at the connection between domestic and international factors and the
effect both have on regional interactions. To shed light and increase the
understanding of the many aspects of the conflict, the course uses theoretical
insights on war and peace from international relations theories with primary
focus on deterrence theory.
Prerequisites: One of the following: JDST 274, 310, POLI 280
or 373. Note: Also listed as POLI 485.
