    <div class="html-content"><p>The Department of State is accepting internship applications for Fall 2022, <strong>applications are due 12 April- that's next Tuesday</strong>. If you are interested, start your application today!! <strong>For the first time these will be paid internship positions. </strong></p><p> The program aims to provide student interns with opportunities both educationally and professionally substantive in nature. The purpose of the program is to provide students with insight into the work of U.S. foreign policy and the administration of the U.S. Department of State and its diplomatic facilities around the world. Specific duties and responsibilities vary according to the domestic office or overseas post of assignment. <Title>Scholarship Opportunity for Transfer Students</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p><span>The Political Science Department is pleased to offer a scholarship to help transfer students complete their degree in Political Science. The <strong>Arthur T. Johnson Transfer Student Scholarship</strong> is awarded to a Political Science major who has transferred from another college or university and has a<strong> minimum 3.25 UMBC cumulative GPA with at least 24 UMBC credits.</strong> </span></p><p><span><br></span></p><p><span>Applicants must submit a transcript and brief essay that describes how the award will assist the student in completing his or her degree. <strong>The application deadline is June 10th. </strong>More information can be received from the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.</span></p><p><span> </span></p><p><span><strong>Financial Support of $3,000 to $3,500 is anticipated. </strong></span></p><p><span><br></span></p><p><span><br></span></p><p><span>Professor Johnson was a member of the Political Science Department from 1980 until his retirement in 2018.     <div class="html-content"><blockquote><div><div><div><span>Ben Wikner is a candidate for County Council  D7 (Olney, Mont Village, Redland, Damascus) and is seeking a Campaign Manager. This role will begin immediately and run through election day on July 19. The time commitment is between 30-40 hours a week and will require significant flexibility- hybrid work, evening and weekend, attending events throughout District 7.</span><span> </span><br><span> </span><br><span>This will be a fast-paced role that requires an energetic, highly organized person with mad people-skills. Experience in volunteer organization, project management, social media, and even prior campaign experience is a plus, but with the right talents and abilities, not necessary.     O. Kuhn Library Gallery</span></strong><span> presents a participatory installation and a panel
    discussion.</span></p>

    Monday, April 4th from 12 to 5 p.m., the public is invited to view a set of four <strong><span>ice
    block installations</span></strong><strong> </strong>near
    the entrance to the Albin O. Kuhn Library, each of which will gradually melt to
    reveal an enclosed photograph from the exhibition. A simultaneous hands-on
    display will be located inside the Gallery.</span></p>

    <div class="html-content"><div><strong><span>The Center for Democracy and Civic Life is looking for</span></strong><strong><span>  undergraduate students to join our team as</span><span> 2022-23 interns</span><span>. Interns support the Center's programs and initiatives, working collaboratively with other members of the staff. Each intern has a particular area of focus, but all members of the team are involved in developing and producing the Center's work. </span></strong></div><div><strong><div><br></div></strong></div><strong><div><strong><br></strong></div>Political engagement intern (15-20 hours/week)</strong><span>: The political engagement intern  supports programs that connect UMBC students with the legislative process in Annapolis, engage them in politics and pathways to political leadership, and encourage their participation in local, state, and national elections. <Title>UMBC Mock Trial Returns to National Championship</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div>The number one nationally ranked UMBC Mock Trial team will be defending their title at the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) National Championship Tournament April 8th to April 10th. </div><div> </div><div><br></div><div>The whole department is so proud of this team for their effort to battle through a brutal schedule and earn their fourth consecutive bid to Nationals. </div><div><br></div><div>Coach Ben Garmoe said: </div><div><br></div><div><a href="https://youtu.be/rYlyIwxjqmY" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">I would encourage you to watch this video of our bid announcement</a> to get a sense of what this means to our students. They pour so much of their time and effort into this activity, and I could not be more proud to coach them. This season especially has been challenging, with multiple transitions from virtual to in person, as well as the pressure of competing as defending champions. Despite all of this, they have never stopped working and improving, and I have every confidence that we can challenge for a repeat title in a few weeks." </div><div><br></div><div>Congratulations as well to program President Thomas Azari on his All-National Attorney award!     <div class="html-content"><div><h3>Apply Here: </h3><div><br></div><div><a href="https://umbc.academicworks.com/opportunities/3921" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">https://umbc.academicworks.com/opportunities/3921</a><br></div><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>This scholarship is awarded to deserving undergraduate students at <span>UMBC</span> who have achieved<strong> a minimum 3.0 grade point average, have junior or senior status, have made contributions to the community, and who demonstrate financial need.</strong></p><p>The Louis L. Kaplan Scholarship was established November 24, 1981, by the Student Government Association at <span>UMBC</span> in recognition of Dr. Kaplan’s contributions to <span>UMBC</span> during his tenure as Interim Chancellor. It was Dr. Kaplan’s wish, when the fund was first established, that students who displayed academic promise be assisted financially in order to continue their education at <span>UMBC</span>.</p><p><strong>Minimum eligibility requirements:</strong></p><ul><li>Must be an undergraduate junior or senior student (60 minimum credits by Fall);</li><li>Maintain a cumulative 3.0 <span>GPA</span>; and</li><li>Have made valuable contributions to the <span>UMBC</span> community.<br><em><strong>Demonstrate financial need (<span>FAFSA</span>) preferred.</strong></em></li></ul><p><strong>Eligible candidates should submit:</strong></p><ul><li>A current resume</li><li>An unofficial <span>UMBC</span> transcript</li><li>1-3 letters of recommendation from a <span>UMBC</span> faculty or staff member</li><li>A maximum 250-word written statement demonstrating significant contribution to the <span>UMBC</span> Campus Community</li></ul><p>Selection of a student or students for the award will be made by the selection committee in Summer 2022.
