    <div class="html-content"><span>Rehman Liaqat</span><span> '22, Political Science, has received the inaugural </span><a href="https://midatlantic.compact.org/mid-atlantic-civic-fellowship-nomination/mid-atlantic-civic-fellows-2022-2023/rehman-liaqat/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Campus Compact Mid-Atlantic (CCMA) Civic Fellowship. </a><span>He is one of 13 students chosen from institutions across Maryland, Delaware, and Washington D.C. This honor follows Liaqat's recent recognition as a 2022 </span><a href="https://umbc.edu/stories/umbcs-haleemat-adekoya-receives-prestigious-truman-scholarship-for-education-advocacy/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">finalist for the prestigious Truman Scholarship.</a><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><span>The CCMA Civic Fellows program develops student leaders who are "engaged global citizens, actively contributing to the creation of equitable, healthy, sustainable, and socially just communities." If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.</p><ol><li>Develop and maintain shared databases; manage the timeliness and integrity of data; maintain documentation of database contents and data flows to ensure that future verification and reproduction of results can take place, coordinating activities of others as needed; produce reports and provide information on database contents to support the requirements of management, data maintainers, and data user.</li><li>Apply a variety of economic and statistical analysis and modeling techniques that are used by economists, psychologists, and statisticians for research. Perform straightforward mathematical and statistical calculations to support research and monitoring of policy developments.</li><li>Develop expertise in straightforward statistical sampling and modeling to provide technical assistance to researchers and policy analysts. Monitor and report on current developments in assigned consumer financial area.</li><li>Make modifications in existing data gathering and statistical reporting procedures and assists in review and adoption of new procedures, applying in-depth knowledge of the source data and data manipulation techniques.     <div class="html-content"><p><u><strong><span>Eversheds Sutherland
    Scholars Program </span></strong><span> </span></u></p><p><span>The program's goal is to demystify the law school experience by exposing
    participants to introductory courses in contracts and legal writing. Lessons
    are taught by an Emory University School of Law professor. Additionally, our
    attorneys and other legal professionals provide valuable law school and
    industry insight and advice through networking events and attorney panel
    discussions.<br>
     <br>
    Since its inception, more than 400 ES Scholars have graduated from the program,
    and<strong> 95% of that group have been accepted into law schools across the country.</strong>
    In 2017, the program was awarded the Minority Corporate Counsel Association
    (MCCA) George B. Vashon Innovator Award, which recognized Eversheds Sutherland
    for excellence in innovative practices and commitment in assisting diverse
    attorneys.<br></span></p><p><span><br></span></p><h6><span><strong>The program is offered
    at no cost to participants and includes</strong>:</span></h6><h6><span><br></span></h6><ul><li><span><span> </span><span>Introduction to
    contracts, legal writing, and bluebooking</span></span></li><li><span><span> </span></span><span>Panel discussions including

    to law schools and law firm recruitment</span></li><li><span>A practical approach to assignments, reading,
    and studying strategies</span></li></ul><ul><li><span>Resume workshops and
    mock interviews</span></li><li><span>Networking with fellow
    ES Scholars, ES Scholars Alums, Eversheds Sutherland attorneys, and other legal
    professionals</span></li><li><span><em>A modest stipend upon
    successful completion of the program</em></span></li></ul><p><strong><span><u>About the Eversheds
    Sutherland Program </u></span></strong><span></span></p>
    
    <span>The program is offered for
    three weeks during the summer from <strong>Monday, June 6, 2022 to Friday, June 24,
    2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. every weeknight.</strong> The <strong>first two weeks will be
    held virtually</strong> and will consist of abbreviated introductory courses on
    contracts, legal writing, and blue-booking, each taught by an Emory Law
    professor. The final week of panel discussions, workshops, and other
    programming will be held in person separately (but concurrently) for each of
    the two cohorts in our offices in Atlanta and Washington, D.C. Housing is not
    provided.<br>

    <div class="html-content"><div><p>Over April 30-May 1, its members joined students from other Maryland campuses at the State House in Annapolis for MSL's culminating Annual Session to debate and vote on their original legislation and conduct other legislative business. </p><p><br></p><p>On the basis of their number of participants, their success at passing legislation, and the spirit, professionalism, and teamwork that they brought to the Session,<strong> UMBC received the Best Delegation Award</strong> (shared with McDaniel College)! </p><p><br></p><p>On top of that, POLI minor <strong>Alexxus Richardson</strong> received the Maryland Student Legislature's Best Delegate award, POLI major <strong>Jacob Ridgway's </strong>Child Arrest Protection Act won the Best Act award, and POLI major <strong>Aurora Quezada</strong> was elected as the Maryland Student Legislature's 2022-23 Secretary of State. The Department of Political Science recognizes <strong>Zoe Smith</strong> for her highly effective leadership as chair of UMBC's recently re-launched delegation and is proud of all delegation members, including those who were not able to attend the Annual Session but still played important roles preparing the team all year.</p><p>MSL welcomes new members for 2022-23 and <strong>offers academic credit via POLI 341</strong>! <Title>PAID Executive Office of the President Seeks Summer Interns</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p>For the first time in history, the Executive Office of the President (EOP) is launching an EOP-wide paid internship program that will provide a stipend to participants.</p><p>The Office of Administration (OA) and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) are currently seeking students to serve as interns for their Summer 2022 programs.</p><p><strong>The Office of Administration</strong> has a mission to provide administrative and business support services to all components within the EOP. These services include financial management, information technology support, human resources management, library and research assistance, facilities management, procurement, design and printing, mail and logistics, personnel and physical security, counterintelligence, emergency preparedness and enterprise communications, legal support services, and more.</p><p><strong>The Office of Management and Budget </strong>oversees the implementation of the President's vision across the Executive Branch. OMB carries out its mission through five main functions across executive departments and agencies: 1) budget development and execution; 2) management, including oversight of agency performance, procurement, financial management, and information technology; 3) coordination and review of all significant Federal regulations from executive agencies; 4) clearance and coordination of legislative and other materials; and 5) clearance of Presidential Executive Orders and memoranda to agency heads prior to their issuance.</p><p><strong>The Summer 2022 program for both OA and OMB will run from June 20, 2022 through August 12, 2022.</strong></p><p>Students will be offered challenging and valuable experiences, which will build their leadership and professional skills.
