    <div class="html-content"><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><p>Apply by October 21st for Spring '23 Internships </p><p>Apply for Legal Internships: <a href="https://politicalscience.umbc.edu/legal-internship-program/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">HERE</a></p><p>Apply for Policy Politics and Administration Internships:<a href="https://politicalscience.umbc.edu/pppa-internship-program/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"> HERE </a></p><p>Apply for Maryland General Assembly Internships: <a href="https://politicalscience.umbc.edu/mga-internship-program-2/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">HERE</a></p><p>Two courses in the political science curriculum, POLI 438 (Legal Internship) and POLI 448 (Internship in Policy, Politics, and Public Administration) enable students to earn academic credit for internships. </p><p>To earn the four credits associated with POLI 438 or 448, students must:</p><ul><li>Work for at least 160 hours during the semester when the class is taken at an internship approved by the course instructor;</li><li>Concurrently enroll in and fulfill all requirements associated with the Career Center's 0-credit, tuition-free <a href="https://careers.umbc.edu/students/find/internship/earn-academic-credit/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Intern Success Practicum</a></li><li>Complete a minimal set of oral and written reflections as specified in course syllabi.</li></ul><p>Students need permission from the course instructor to register for POLI 438 or 448. <Title>Intern with the Brooke Lierman Campaign</Title>
<Tagline>PAID Internship with Maryland Comptroller Candidate</Tagline>

    <div class="html-content"><p>Join a leading statewide Democratic campaign as a stipend
    intern to help elect Brooke Lierman as Maryland's first woman Comptroller and to learn
    about how campaigns work! Learn about Brooke at <a href="BrookeLierman.com" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">BrookeLierman.com </a></p><p>Students will work a
    flexible schedule with the goal of working 15 hours per week based around their school
    schedule.</p><p></p>
    
    <p>Seeking students who have an enthusiasm for civic life,
    liberal politics, and are interested in learning new skills and meeting new people! <strong>No prior
    political experience is needed.</strong></p><p></p>
    
    <h5><strong>Start date:</strong> The goal start date is September 6th although
    the internship can start sooner based on candidate availability.</h5><p></p>
    
    <h5>End date: November 9th - Day after Election Day</h5><p></p>
    
    <p> Goal is 15 hours per week with schedule flexibility.</p>
    
    <p>Pay: Interns will receive a stipend paid out on the first
    and fifteenth of each month through the General Election.</p><p></p>
    
    <p>Virtual or in-person: The internship will take place in
    person with specific elements able to be done virtually.</p><p></p>
    
    <br>
    
    <p>Brooke will focus on solving the many income-based issues
    facing Maryland communities, families, and small businesses. She will work to unlock the
    potential that exists in this state but which is out of reach for so many!</p><p></p>
    
    <h4>Duties </h4>
    
    <p>- You will be a lead for direct voter contact</p>
    
    <p>- You will help amplify the campaign's message via social
    media, events, and event recruitment</p><p></p>
    
    <p>- You will help plan, find and execute campaign events</p>
    
    <p>- You will learn how to network with activists in your area</p>
    
    <p>- You will learn how to use VAN -VoteBuilder- upon which
    all Democratic campaigns rely.</p>
    
    <p>-You will help input data, manage administrative tasks, etc.</p>
    
    <p>- You will interact with voters at events around the state
    and contact voters in key areas around the state (including by phone, canvass, and text)</p>
    
    <p>-You will be involved in program planning and brainstorming
    and input will be welcome on any work of the campaign</p><p></p>
    
    <p>-Upon successful completion of the program, you will
    receive a letter of recommendation and a member of the campaign will be happy to serve as a
    reference for future opportunities</p><p></p>
    
    <h5>Requirements:</h5><p></p>
    
    <p>1. Legal ability to work in the US</p>
    
    <p>2. Reliable transportation</p>
    
    <p>3. Ability to attend events on weekends</p>
    
    <p>4. A comfort level (with training) talking to members of the
    public about politics</p>

    many <a href="https://www.npr.org/2022/05/04/1096589956/indiana-ohio-primaries-what-happened-takeaways-vance-trump" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>journalists and pundits</span></a> have <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/04/28/trump-may-endorsements-status/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>credited</span></a> the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-endorsement-success-rate-average-performance-vote-percentage-gop-primaries-2022-5" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>power</span></a> of
    Donald Trump's endorsements with determining the winners of Republican
    primaries.</span></p><p><span>Trump has made <a href="https://ballotpedia.org/Endorsements_by_Donald_Trump" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>203 candidate endorsements</span></a> in
    the 2022 election cycle so far, targeting state, congressional, gubernatorial
    and even <a href="https://www.star-telegram.com/opinion/ryanjrusak/article256799582.html" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>local</span></a> races.</span></p><p><span>Based on the numbers alone, receiving a "Trump bump" seems like a
    surefire way to win an election. So far, <a href="https://ballotpedia.org/Endorsements_by_Donald_Trump#Regular_endorsements" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>94% of Trump's favored
    candidates</span></a> have won their Republican primaries.</span></p><p><span>But as a political scientist who <a href="https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=RG_vffMAAAAJ&amp;hl=en" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>studies</span></a> voting
    and public opinion, I have my doubts about the true power of Trump's
    endorsements. Instead, it is more likely that most of the candidates Trump has

    <div class="html-content"><p><span>In an effort to encourage participation by underrepresented students in APPAM and its activities, the Policy Council and APPAM's Diversity Committee created the APPAM Equity &amp; Inclusion Fellowship in 2016. Now, we are expanding the Equity &amp; Inclusion Fellowship Program to include undergraduate students. We hope to introduce the field of public policy to undergraduates, who might not otherwise be familiar with it, as well as increase the pipeline of diverse students into APPAM institutional member graduate public policy and public affairs schools.</span></p><h4><a href="https://www.cognitoforms.com/APPAM1/_2022APPAMEquityAndInclusionUndergraduateFellowshipApplication" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">APPLY HERE </a></h4><h4><br></h4><h4>Eligibility</h4><p></p>

    <p>We hope you are having a wonderful summer!! If
    you are a new first-year or transfer student in POLI 100 this fall, we wanted
    to let you know about an exciting opportunity to earn additional credit, get
    some extra support, and get a head start on a great GPA by switching to POLI
    100Y!</p>
    
    <p><span>In the Y section – you will have the chance to
    connect with other new students as well as a staff instructor and a peer
    facilitator who will help you navigate your first semester at UMBC and become
    familiar with the campus. Students in the Y section earn an extra 1-credit
    towards their overall credit load for the semester by attending a once per week
    discussion attached to the lecture for POLI 100. This class is intended to be
    fun, dynamic and extremely informative. POLI 100 meets every Tuesday and
    Thursday from 10 to 11:15 AM The Y section meets on Wednesday’s 4 to 5:15 PM.
    Remember, when you make the switch, you are given one extra credit! So why not?</span></p>
