Job Description
- Minimum 15 hours/week
- January 11 - April 10, 2023
- Interns receive a monthly stipend & completion bonus
- Reliable transportation to and from Annapolis, MD
- Strong Writing Skills
Responsibilities include:
- Testimony Submission
- Hearing Coverage
- Scheduling meetings between lobbyists, clients, and legislators
- Drafting memos
- Pulling bill files and legislative history
- Initiation/one-pager distributions to General Assembly
- Greet and provide hospitality to clients and visitors
- Basic clerical duties
Founded in 2018 by preeminent lobbyist Hannah Garagiola, Compass Advocacy is headquartered in the heart of Annapolis. In addition, we operate a government relations and law office in downtown Rockville, Maryland. We also advocate in Dover, Delaware. Our team is comprised of passionate lobbyists, consultants, creatives, attorneys, and problem-solvers ready to advocate for our clients.
The Political Science department is in the process of hiring a new professor within the Poli Sci department with a specialization in Race and Ethnic politics. At the end of the fall semester, five finalist candidates are going to be invited to campus, as part of that process the department usually has the prospective candidate(s) meet with a small group of students (3-5) for a conversation about the department and position.

Exciting Poli Sci Courses offered in Winter '23
Catch Up or Get Ahead with Major or Minor courses
The Winter semester is a great time to take Poli Sci classes. The semester is a month-long and students can take up to 4.5 credits. Many classes are online and some are also asynchronous. Students do not need advising approval to register for a Winter class.
This is a fantastic way to take classes in a flexible setting. Several special topic courses are only offered over the Winter term. There are eight classes that have open seats as of 11/28.

The Political Science Council of Majors unites those students who are interested in pursuing a Political Science Major, or any associated minors and concentrations, as well as those students interested in a graduate education and/or career in a field related to Political science. The organization also works hand in hand with the Political Science Department of UMBC to make Political Science information available to all students-members throughout UMBC, including a beginning of the year orientation for new students..
The Africana Studies 50th Anniversary and the 44th Annual W.E.B. Du Bois Lecture, November 9-11, 2022
November 9 at 5-8 p.m. , University Center Ballroom: The 44th Annual W.E.B. Du Bois Distinguished Lecture with special keynote addresses by UMBC alumna and former professors, Dr. Christel Temple, '94, and Mr. Donald G. Murray, Jr. They will speak on the respective topics of "Cultural Memory and Mythology: Africana Agency in the Face of Exile" and "Africana Studies: Creating a Program Space and Place at UMBC and the Greater Baltimore and Washington, D.C. Communities."
November 10 at 4-7 p.m., Albin O. Kuhn Library Room 767: Roundtable discussions with AFST current students, alumni, and faculty. This event will also include the showing of a

During the Winter and Summer sessions, POLI routinely offers a handful of courses, many of which we just do not have time to offer during the regular semesters.
Some Special Topics Courses Include:

Poli 482 International Law
An important note: Poli 395 National Security Policy of the United States will not be offered in Spring '23. So Winter is your last chance to take it until next school year.
These special sessions are an excellent and cost-effective way to move more quickly toward degree completion with some pretty fascinating classes.
Special sessions courses are shorter, and thus more intense, than a semester-length class. We do NOT recommend taking more than one in the Winter and two in the Summer sessions.
Winter session helps you stay on track to graduate on time, especially if you can't take 15 credits during the spring and fall semesters. Most winter session courses meet degree requirements or are general education (GEP) courses required for all majors.
Registration clearance is not required for winter session. Advising is recommended, but not required.
Use myUMBC to register for up to 4.5 credits. If you would like to take more than 4.5 credits, submit an Excess Credit Permission Form to the Office of Academic and Pre-Professional Advising for review.
