<Title>Reminder: Math 341 Computational Methods</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div><span>From Professor Gobbert:</span></div><span><div><span><br></span></div>A reminder to think of courses such as MATH 341 that we offer this Summer Session I. This is a class without Math 301 pre-requisite and thus is a way to start on upper-level electives, in particular, if a student is completing all 200-level requirements (221, 225, 251) right now.</span><br><br><span>Math 341 is a class required for teaching certification and hence might be considered by anyone thinking about teaching as a career option.</span><br><br><span>Or it is of course generally useful to make progress in the summer, and we are also offering several upper-level courses, namely also Math 301 in Summer I and Math 404 and 426 in Summer II as well as Stat 355 in both Summer I and Summer II.</span><br></div>

<Title>REU Summer 2021: Patterns, Growth, and Dynamics in Boston</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><h3>Information about the REU</h3><div><br></div><div><span>Regular patterns form in a wide array of natural and made-made systems, including biological morphogenesis, crystal growth, chemical reactions, and fluid systems. This REU is looking for two enthusiastic students to study how such patterns can be controlled and influenced by spatio-temporal heterogeneities through the mathematical lense of differential equations and dynamical systems theory using both analytical and numerical techniques.</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><span>This eight week REU will run tentatively from June 2nd - July 28th and, if possible, take place on the main campus at Boston University. If this is not possible due to travel restrictions or university rules addressing the pandemic, the REU will run virtually.</span><br><br><strong>Eligibility:</strong><span> An applicant must be a US citizens or permanent resident and must not have finished their undergraduate degree by summer 2021.</span><br><br><strong>Support: </strong><span>Participants will receive a stipend of $4800 and support for housing on the BU campus (if done in person). Domestic travel funding may also be available.</span><br><br><span>Students from historically underrepresented groups in mathematics are particularly encouraged to apply.</span><br><br><strong>Deadline:</strong><span> Applications received by March 1 will be given full consideration.</span></div>

<Title>REU Summer 2021: Patterns and Differential Equations</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div><div>This REU is scheduled for the seven week period June 21 - August 6, 2021 to take place at Leiden University (Netherlands). Research projects will focus on the study of nonlinear waves and pattern formation, using the theory of dynamical systems and partial differential equations.</div><div><br></div>We expect to fund at least two students for this program. To participate, students must be US citizens or permanent residents, and must have not yet completed their undergraduate degree by summer 2021. Selected students will receive a stipend of $4,200 plus up to $2,000 towards round trip airfare as well as accommodation. We encourage applications from women and groups traditionally underrepresented in mathematics.</div><br><span>We intend to conduct the program at Leiden University; however, if travel restrictions persist, or if international travel is deemed unsafe or inadvisable for summer 2021, the program will be conducted virtually.</span><div><br></div><div>Applications should be submitted via MathPrograms.org: <a href="https://www.mathprograms.org/db/programs/1048" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">https://www.mathprograms.org/db/programs/1048</a></div></div>
