Participating students will receive a stipend of $1,000/week for eight weeks and will have their housing, meals, and travel expenses paid. This is an amazing opportunity for students to immerse themselves in applied math, computational science, and/or data science research while simultaneously participating in professional development and community-building activities designed to foster a strong sense of belonging.

Note that while all projects will have an applied math and/or computational science approach, students do not need to have an applied math background to apply. Projects appropriate for students at all undergraduate levels will be available, and prior research experience is not required.


Applications are due February 7 and supporting letters of recommendation are due February 12.

2025 Undergraduate Research in Industrial Projects for Students (RIPS)

 

In this program, students work in teams on projects that are sponsored by an industrial partner. The projects cover a wide range of real-world topics, including big data, optimization, transportation, quantum computing, and biotech. We offer two locations for the RIPS 2025 program: RIPS-LA (UCLA campus) and RIPS-Singapore.  The application deadline is Friday, February 7, 2025. Please forward to as many eligible undergraduate students as possible!

The WAVE Fellows program supports this goal by increasing visibility and accessibility to Caltech's PhD programs to undergraduates in STEM fields who are seriously considering attending graduate school. WAVE Fellows is a 10-week undergraduate research program that provides robust programming in the areas of academic and professional development.


Eligibility: Students must be current sophomores through non-graduating seniors and must be U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, or students with DACA status. A minimum GPA of 3.4 is required.


Competitive applicants will have completed sophomore-level courses in desired research field, have demonstrated through academic and/or co-curricular activities a passion for research, and can articulate how their research interests align with Caltech's research areas. The most competitive applicants will have prior research experience.


Support: WAVE Fellows will receive a $6,000 award for the 10-week period, plus campus housing and a dining and travel supplement of ~$1,000.

The actuarial profession is often highly rated in terms of compensation, stress levels, and overall job satisfaction. Here's a chance to talk to an actuary, ask him about the profession, and find out if this might be a good fit for you. For those that attended the first session, this one will dive deeper into company versus consulting and life insurance versus property and casualty insurance, with more focus on the day in the life for each type of actuary. On Saturday, October 5, Caltech will kickoff our 5th annual virtual FUTURE Ignited program.


Caltech recognizes that the diversity of background, experience, and thought is essential to achieving and maintaining scientific excellence. The FUTURE Ignited program is designed to support and encourage aspiring graduate students by providing the opportunity to learn more about graduate programs at Caltech and, more broadly, the graduate school admissions process.


Please share this information with your top rising Junior and Senior students, in STEM fields — who may be interested in pursuing a PhD — to participate.
