<Title>UMBC Ethics Bowl Team Qualifies for Nationals!</Title>

    <div><strong>Many congratulations to UMBC's Ethics Bowl Team for 
    qualifying for Nationals, placing 3rd in the Chesapeake Regional Ethics Bowl competition, which took place this past weekend at UMBC!</strong><br></div><div><br></div><div>UMBC's Ethics Bowl Team this year includes David Ameh, Tafat Boudif, Aziza Mattaka, Lauren Rivarde, and Yaroslav Shalak, with Rebecca Mekasha as an alternate. </div><div><br></div><div>Many congratulations to the team, as well as Professor Greg
     Ealick, the Team's Faculty Advisor and Coach!</div><div><br></div><div>The Chesapeake Regional Ethics Bowl competition took place this past weekend at UMBC, hosted by UMBC's <a href="https://philosophy.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Philosophy Department</a> and the new <a href="https://ethics.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Center for Ethics and Values</a>. The competition included 15 teams from: <span>Georgetown</span> University; Montgomery College; Notre Dame of Maryland; 
    Penn State; Salisbury University; Saint Mary's College of Maryland; Temple University; U. of Maryland, College Park; U.S. Naval 
    Academy; Villanova University; Virginia Tech; Virginia Military Academy; West Chester University; and of course UMBC. Virginia Tech came in 1st, followed by Salisbury University, UMBC, and Villanova. The first three qualify for Nationals, which will take place this coming February.<br></div>

The Philosophy Department is also offering a new course this spring: <strong>PHIL 240: Introduction to Argumentation and Debate</strong>, which introduces students to the fundamentals of argumentation and debate through participation in different debate formats, including Ethics Bowl and is taught by the team's coach, Professor Greg Ealick. </div>
