The Inaugural Phi Kappa Phi Lecture was held at UMBC on April 25, 2012. Scott Farrow, UMBC professor of economics, affiliate professor of public policy, and Phi Kappa Phi member, shared his reflections on four terms of service in the federal government in a lecture called, “Combining technical skills with public service: Confessions of a political economist.” The interactive lecture, which can be viewed on the chapter’s myUMBC and Facebook pages, drew an audience of approximately 100 students, faculty, staff, and community members. Students interested in a public service career will not want to miss the insights and tips shared by Professor Farrow.
The lecture was co-sponsored by the UMBC Department of Economics; Department of Public Policy; Department of Political Science; Shriver Center; Honors College; Career Services Center; Sondheim Public Affairs Scholars Program; Social Sciences Forum; and College Democrats.
Plans are underway to hold The Second Annual Phi Kappa Phi Lecture at UMBC on March 6, 2013, at 4 p.m. in the Gallery of the Albin O. Kuhn Library.
