Workforce Recruitment Program for Students w/Disabilities

<Tagline>Interview for Summer & Permanent Positions including Interns</Tagline>

Interviews for the program will take place at UMBC (Career Services
Center) on November 5 and November 6, 2012. Deadline to apply is
October 15, 2012. Read details and necessary steps below to participate
     below:

The Workforce Recruitment Program for College Students with Disabilities
(WRP) is a recruitment and referral program that connects public and
private sector employers nationwide with highly motivated postsecondary
students and recent graduates with disabilities who are eager to prove
their abilities in the workplace through summer or permanent jobs.

The WRP provides students with disabilities in all fields of study the
opportunity to market their abilities to a wide variety of potential
employers across the United States, sharpen their interviewing skills
during a required one-on-one meeting with a WRP recruiter, and gain
valuable skills, experience, and contacts on the job.

Applicants for the program must:
- Have a disability AND
- Be a U.S. citizen AND
- Be enrolled in an accredited institution of higher education
on a substantially full-time basis (unless the severity of the
disability precludes the student from taking a substantially full-time
load) to seek a degree OR
- Be enrolled in such an institution as a degree-seeking
student taking less than a substantially full-time load in the
enrollment period immediately prior to graduation OR
- have graduated from such an institution within the past year.

The WRP is run on an annual basis and requires student applicants to
have an interview with one of our recruiters during an on-campus
    recruitment visit.

The interviews for summer and permanent positions will take place at UMBC November 5 and November 6, 2012.

Interested and eligible students will need to take the following steps:
1) Upload your resume to your UMBCworks account (login via the Jobs
& Internships Topic in myUMBC). After uploading, students must have
their resume reviewed by a UMBC Career Specialist in the Career
    Services Center in Math/Psychology 212. Walk-in hours are M-F, 2-4pm.

2) Schedule a time with a UMBC Career Specialist to practice interview
techniques and self-advocacy skills. Appointments can be scheduled by
    calling 410.455.2216.

3) Visit https://wrp.gov/registerstudent to:
a) Register and then after your registration is approved (once approved you will receive an email),
b) Fill out your application for the Workforce Recruitment Program
(WRP). You must fill out your application directly into the WRP database
via a student registration portal and complete your entire application
online. We suggest you have someone in the UMBC Career Center carefully
look over your application before you submit it. This will be
competitive and your resume, application, and interview must be top
    notch.

4) Apply in UMBCworks to this position: Workforce Recruitment Program
for College Students with Disabilities – position i.d. number 9253455.

NEW Internship for those interested in Aging Services

<Tagline>Apply today!</Tagline>

Tender Loving Calls is an innovative, interactive and easy to use subscription telephone messaging service, designed to improve the quality of life for aging seniors and help families take better care of their aging loved ones from a distance.

The associated web site TLC-Connect is to be for the family caregivers and is to be a dual-purpose social learning networking and marketing site. Recent research has shown that family caregivers are very active users of the internet, particularly social networks, both on and offline. They are keen to connect with others to discuss and learn from each others experiences. There are many web sites devoted to providing information on all aspects of aging and caregiving, however very few (if any) encourage communication and collaboration between their visitors. My aim is not just to provide information but to encourage users to share their experiences, using the blogging, forum systems and specialist groups within the TLC site, with the notion that ‘a problem shared is a problem solved’.

We have an interim web site at http://www.tenderlovingcalls.com and are currently building a full scale social learning network to take its place. We are looking for Interns who are interested in working to help develop an active and engaged community of users. In the process they will explore a different application of social networking that goes way beyond the world of Facebook and Twitter. Running a large scale focused social network is very much like being the producer of a live daily TV program. They will work directly with me to learn and master techniques which encourage active and sustained engagement within this community. They will have the opportunity to develop and explore their own ideas pertinent to creating an engaging online environment designed to serve people (especially family caregivers) who are deeply concerned about providing care for our aging community.

If you have any interest you can see some of my past projects at http://www.digitalslate.com.

IF INTERESTED, apply via UMBCworks or send your resume to Christine Routzahn at the Shriver Center (routzahn@umbc.edu)
