Food for Fines is Back
Five Items Equals One Citation Lowered to a Warning
Did you know that one in three Americans deal with food insecurity issues. Retriever Essentials works tirelessly to meet the needs of those dealing with this issue on the UMBC campus. Looking for a way to help?
Parking Services has just launched our spring Food for Fines program. Bring any combination of five non-perishable items or toiletries to the Parking Services office and we will reduce one citation ($40 or less) to a warning. Not sure what to bring? Take a look at the list below:
1. Non-perishable foods (protein-based)
2. Microwaveable foods (Shelf Stable
3. Protein shakes/drinks
4. Protein bars
5. Shelf stable milk
6. Similac (baby formula)
7. Baby wipes
8. Diapers (different sizes)
9. Feminine hygiene products (pads)
10. Toiletries (toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap - three packs or larger)

Limited Availability at Upper Admin Garage This Friday
Accessible Parking Spaces Unaffected
The Annual Spring Career and Intern Fair will be held on Friday, February 9 at the Retriever Activities Center (RAC). Due to the size of this event, parking will be limited on the top level of the Administration Garage. The lower portion (Gated) will be unaffected by this event.
Additionally, accessible parking will remain open for those who need to utilize these spaces. If you have questions regarding this event or any parking issue, please email Parking Services at

On Wednesday, December 20, there will be a partial closure of Lot 8 for the entire day, in order to install a temporary trailer at the police station. The entire east side and part of the north end of Lot 8 will be closed in order to allow the trucks delivering the trailer to navigate the parking lot to a final destination at the police station.

Construction this Friday on the Top Level of Admin Garage
Approx. 15 Spaces to be Closed
Facilities Management will completing a project this Friday, October 27, on the top level of the Administration Garage. This will require the closure of approximately 15 spaces during the construction project.
The project includes repairing seven parking bollards. All work is expected to be completed on Friday. The rest of the lot will remain open for normal operations. Accessible parking and lower gated parking will remain open. Visitor parking is also available in Lots 7 and 9, as well as the Commons Drive and Walker Avenue garages.

How can you help? Parking Services is teaming up with Retriever Essentials for the third round of Food for Fines!
How does this work? If you have a citation of $40 or less, you can donate five nonperishable items or five toiletry items and we will lower one citation to a warning (Limit one reduction per person). All items must be donated at the Parking Services Offices to receive this offer. This does not count for previously paid citations.
This campaign runs from October 23 through November 3. Donations are accepted Monday to Friday, from 8 AM to 4 PM (Office Closes for Lunch from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM).

MTA Transitions from Stickers to State Issued ID
Current Stickers Expire July 31!
One of the many great benefits of working at UMBC for regular status faculty and staff is the ability to ride Baltimore area transit for free. This includes MTA buses, the Light Rail, Metro Subway and commuter bus service lines 120, 150 and 160.
Until now, stickers were utilized on your UMBC ID. However, effective August 1, you will no longer be able to use these stickers but instead will be required to obtain a permanent Maryland State ID.
How do you get one?
1. Employees must fill out and electronically submit the following to Wendi Myers (
wendi1@umbc.edu) UMBC’s coordinator:
c. Copy of their government-issued photo ID
d. jpeg photograph of the application
Please read the
Directions for more specific information and photo restrictions.
2. The ID coordinator then must verify all necessary criteria have been met and
3. SCPC will process the application the ID coordinator will get a “received”
response. After 48 business hours, the employee may go to the location
indicated on their application to obtain their ID Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
between 8 am - 2 pm.

The Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena will host the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ Annual Convention on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays this summer. The conventions will begin this Friday and run through the weekend of August 4-6.
Parking in the lots by the arena will be greatly reduced. As a result, you may have to park in a different lot or, if an option, elect to work from home those Fridays. The campus is lightly attended on Fridays and parking will be available for anyone who needs it.

How will this effect you? During the project, spaces will be blocked off in the garage from time to time. With the reduced number of vehicles on campus during the summer, this project should have minimal impact on those parking in the garage.
