You are so close to earning your UMBC degree! Keep up the momentum!
Once you’ve earned 90 academic credits, you will have access to a Graduation Card on your myUMBC Profile page, which you will use to apply for graduation. The Graduation Card is a personalized, step-by-step guide that will ensure a smooth process forward until you cross the finish line with your UMBC degree. However, eligibility is only the start of the graduation application process.
How to Apply for Graduation
You should check your Graduation Card periodically to ensure that you are staying on track with all degree requirements as this will be the only way to access the application for graduation when the time comes. Please note that students may only participate in one commencement ceremony based on the semester in which all degree requirements will be complete.
If you intend to complete all degree requirements by the end of the Fall 2022 semester, please note that Thursday, September 15th is the last day undergraduates can apply for December Graduation by logging into the Graduation Card on the myUMBC profile page.
As you finalize your graduation plan, below are some steps you can take now to ensure that you’ll soon be celebrating the completion of your UMBC degree!
Review your Degree Audit
Make sure all your degree information is up-to-date and that you are aware of all remaining graduation requirements
Submit a declaration of major form to update your major, minor, or any other programs
Make sure that you have a plan to finish not only all 120 credits but also that your degree includes all 45 upper-level credits
Check to see that you have finished all GEP requirements or make sure your remaining semesters include plans to finish these requirements. If you still have a language 201 class, science with lab or last culture class, or any missing upper-level credits, now is the time to plan to get them done!
Use UMBC’s Winter session to get GEP course or major elective done – the winter schedule will be available for viewing starting on Sept. 12th
Review your test and transfer credit
Re-check any transferred courses or AP/CLEP test credit, especially if you are using them to fulfill GEP or major electives. You can view your Transfer Credit Report in your myUMBC profile.
Submit a Course Review Form if you need to get any courses re-evaluated – to do this, be prepared to submit a syllabus of the transferred class.
Talk your courses over with your advisor If you have any questions about your transfer credit and how it can be used to fulfill degree requirements.
Go over your graduation plan with your advisor
Get additional insights from your advisor about how to plan out your remaining requirements and brainstorm your post-graduation plans
Revisit advising notes in your myUMBC profile for summaries of previous advising sessions to make sure you are keeping all advising recommendations in mind as you finish your degree.

Once you apply for graduation, participating in the commencement ceremony and other celebratory activities on campus is the culmination of all your hard work. Take time to recognize all it took to get you to this moment and be proud of your accomplishments!
Please be reminded that UMBC confers baccalaureate degrees to undergraduate students who successfully complete a course of study that meets the minimum university requirements outlined in the Undergraduate Baccalaureate Degree Completion Policy. Only those students who have every single requirement needed for degree completion (i.e., currently enrolled in all remaining courses and/or pending transfer credit to be sent to UMBC), will be eligible for graduation and to participate in the commencement ceremony.

UMBC's Office of Sustainability engages with the campus community in numerous ways to help inform our work to promote sustainability within our interconnected environment, society, and economy. One way we engage is through surveys, which help us to develop benchmarks for various initiatives and to inform ongoing and new projects.
The following survey assesses specific knowledge, beliefs, and practices of UMBC students, faculty, and staff. The input you provide will help the Office of Sustainability to create programs, services, and procedures allowing us to better serve you and your fellow Retrievers.
Those who participate in the survey have the option to enter into a drawing for a UMBC Sustainability Matters reusable water bottle and sticker! We will randomly select five students, one faculty member, and one staff member at the end of the survey. Winners will be notified via email.

D'Juan Moreland '23, biological sciences and music; Rachel Myers '23, chemical engineering; Christopher Slaughter '23, computer engineering; and Tobi Majekodunmi '23, mechanical engineering are our representatives for 2022. Will you join them in 2023?
The Goldwater Scholarship supports outstanding students interested in research careers in the natural sciences, mathematics, and engineering. The scholarship covers undergraduate eligible expenses for tuition, fees, books, and room and board up to $7,500 per academic year for up to 2 years.
ELIGIBILITY
To be considered for nomination, a student must:
Have a minimum of one semester and no more than two years of undergraduate study remaining beginning September 2023.
Be pursuing a bachelor's degree on a full-time basis.
Have an average GPA > 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
Have a demonstrated interest in a research career in the natural sciences, mathematics, or engineering.
Be nominated by his or her college or university via the official online nomination application.

Join us TODAY for in-person open houses in our three identity, inclusion, and belonging spaces: The Mosaic: Center for Cultural Diversity, The Pride Center, and The Gathering Space for Spiritual Well-Being. Stop by in between your classes or meetings to learn more about our spaces and how they support, affirm, and celebrate our students. All open houses will take place from 10:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m. Pop in for free popcorn and giveaways, while supplies last

UMBC has decided to participate in The Baltimore Sun Top Workplaces program, which identifies and compares top places to work in the Baltimore metropolitan area, based solely on the opinions of employees.
Thanks to everyone who has completed the survey. If you have yet done so, this is a reminder to keep an eye out for an email with a link to the online survey. The survey, conducted by Energage, an independent research company, should take about five minutes to complete. Energage will keep your responses confidential; however, certain members of the UMBC community will have access to the optional written comments on the survey. If you wish to remain completely anonymous, please do not submit any optional written comments that could identify you individually.
