On the heels of the successful “AI, Privacy, and Ethics Symposium” of April 2024, we’re back with a new iteration! Please join us for this fall’s AI Symposium, titled “Exploring the Gadgets & Gizmos in Your AI Toolkit.” This fall’s series will highlight various topics ranging from Google Gemini and its integration into UMBC platforms, to the broader legal implications of using generative AI, and much more! This free symposium will be held virtually at noon via Webex on Wednesdays beginning October 1st through November 12th.

The LEADERSHOPS series consists of workshops that focus on various student centered leadership-related topics facilitated by Campus Life staff and student leaders. 

This program aims to contribute to the leadership development and ongoing learning of UMBC undergraduate students. We have two scheduled leadership workshops for this semester:


The LeadHERship Problem - Monday, March 8th @ 12pm - 1pm
Facilitated by: Nailah-Benā Chambers (SGA Senator), Beatriz Gutiérrez-Malagón (Coordinator for Leadership)
  • In honor of International Women's Day, Leadershops is creating a special leadership workshop focused on women! The LeadHERship Problem is about taking a deeper look into the relationship between women and leadership. Attendees will learn about how our socialization affects our views regarding our own identity and our capacity to lead. This session will also explore how these messages show up in the world around us, and in what ways we can liberate ourselves from it.

This workshop is perfect for students involved in group projects and student organizations, or seeking team-building skills and techniques. Attendees will learn about the process of leadership through team-building and capitalizing on difference.

You've probably heard about the wage gap. You know, the part where men and women often get paid differently for doing the same job? The gap is even bigger for people of color and people with disabilities. What can you do, besides wringing your hands and hoping you don't fall in?

Women Involved in Learning and Leadership (WILL) along with the Women's Center, GWST, the McNair Scholars Program, and the Honors College is bringing another edition of $tart $mart to UMBC. This workshop will help you learn how to ask for what you're worth, even in this tight job market, and help you avoid one of the most common pitfalls for new employees: failing to negotiate that starting salary.
