Welcome to UMBC! We are so glad you're here! Learn more about Welcome Week by perusing the Welcome Week myUMBC group and visiting the Welcome Week site.


Each new student will be assigned a woolie group. Woolie groups are led by one or two Welcome Week Leaders, fondly known as Woolies. Your Woolie Group is your central hub for adjusting to life as a Retriever. This group will serve as a space to:

- Meet other new students

- Connect with your Woolie(s)

- Attend meetings and events

- Access the Welcome Week calendar

- Connect with your group members


You will receive a welcome email from your Woolie on or before Wednesday August 21, 2024. The email will connect you to your group's Groupme and provide important Welcome Week details.

Welcome to UMBC! We are so glad you're here, and hope Welcome Week will reinforce that you chose the right place, even in a weird time.  


Each new student will be assigned to a Woolie Group led by one or two Welcome Week Leaders, fondly known as Woolies. Your Woolie Group is your central hub for adjusting to life as a Retriever. This group will serve as your space to:

- Meet other new students

- Connect with student leaders such as your Woolie(s)

- Attend virtual meetings and events

- Access the Welcome Week calendar

- Chat with your group members via your WebEx Team


You will receive an email notification once you are added to a group. Follow the link in that email to head over to myUMBC and start exploring all that your group has to offer! You can also access your group by signing into myUMBC, choosing “Groups” at the top, and looking for your group on the right side of the page.


Your first Woolie Group meeting is Friday, August 21 at 7:30pm via WebEx. Your Woolie(s) will have your full meeting schedule posted in your group. 


Take a look around, make sure you have WebEx downloaded on your devices, and get ready to have some fun!

Members of the New Student Success Team serve as UMBC representatives to incoming students during Welcome Week and throughout the academic year in first-year courses. In each of these roles students not only enhance their own leadership skills, but make a difference in the lives of new students.

IHU/TRS Peer Facilitators
 
Introduction to an Honors University (IHU) seminars and Transfer (TRS) seminars are semester-long courses designed to help new students transition to UMBC, develop academic success skills, and learn about campus resources. 
 
Students serving as Peer Facilitators for these courses will co-teach with a staff instructor on a weekly basis during the fall and/or spring semesters, essentially serving as a TA for these courses.
 
Welcome Week Leaders (Woolies)
 
Welcome Week is a week and a half long series of social and educational events designed to help new students get connected and learn about opportunities to get involved both in and out of the classroom.

Welcome Week Leaders (also known as Woolies) will work with groups of 25-35 new students to engage in Welcome Week events while also helping to coordinate the logistics of hosting Welcome Week.
