Shakira Scott-Harris (She/Her/Hers) is a Senior Double Major in Public Health on the Health Policy Track and Political Science Pre-Law. Outside of UMBC, she enjoys hanging out with her friends, painting, going out to places, and watching podcasts.
About the Leadershop:
Ever wonder how your family influences your leadership style? From communication patterns to problem-solving approaches, we explore how your upbringing, family values and family role shapes your leadership approach. Vision Board materials will be provided in this session!
What does Leadership mean to you:
Shakira believes that leadership is essential for personal growth and knowing who you want to be as a person.
Her goals as a Leadership Peer Facilitator is to foster growth and leadership skills in others. Aside from being a Leadership Peer Facilitator, Shakira takes part in the Student Government Association as the Speaker of the Senate, Intern with the Choice program, and Student Coordinator Intern at the Shriver Center.
Ice-Breaker: What’s your favorite animal?
“My dog Uno, because he’s the cutest dog on Earth AND he’s smart AND he takes care of my mom. I guess dragonflies are cool too, to be honest.”
Leadership Peer Facilitators aims to contribute to the leadership development and ongoing learning of UMBC undergraduate students. The spring semester will include, Leadership Blueprint, Leadershops, and other exciting programs to come.
About the Facilitator:
Meghna Chandrasekaran (she/her/hers) is a Junior Political Science and Biological Sciences major. Outside of UMBC, she enjoys going for drives and exploring new places, listening to music, and sometimes writing music. Meghna believes that the best leader is an authentic one, what she strives to be in everyday life. Her goals as a Leadership Peer Facilitator is to model authentic leadership through understanding personal values and how it intersects in group settings. Aside from being an LPF, Meghna serves as the Executive Vice President of the Student Government Association and as a Research Intern and STRiVE Coach with the Center for Democracy and Civic Life.

We talk about how we show up in places, but have you looked at how you show up authentically when working with groups to make change? This session explores just that through interactive games.
What does Leadership mean to you:
Leadership means to be authentic. It is rooted in the idea that effective leadership involves being true to oneself and being genuine in interactions with others. Authentic leadership looks at aligning actions and decisions with their core values and beliefs.

The Leadershops series consists of 1 hour workshops that focus on various student centered leadership-related topics facilitated by Campus Life staff and Leadership Peer Facilitators. This program aims to contribute to the leadership development and ongoing learning of UMBC undergraduate students.
About the Facilitator:
Joshua Le (He/Him/His) is a Junior Public Health major on the Health Administration track at UMBC. Outside of UMBC, he enjoys playing video games with friends, listening to music, and sometimes writing poetry. Joshua believes that no leaders are born, but made; leadership plays an important role in Joshua’s identity. His goals as a Leadership Peer Facilitator is to guide others to find self-authorship and understand their values. Aside from being a Leadership Peer Facilitator, Joshua takes part in the Student Government Association as a Senator, and is a Grit Guide within the Undergraduate Admissions Office.
“Who am I?” It’s time to be intentional and self-reflect! This workshop focuses on social identity, values, and how these topics come together to build YOU as a leader.
Ice-Breaker: Favorite animal?
My favorite animal has to be the elephant or the snake… or the dragon… but most definitely the elephant. I love elephants because they represent wisdom, and it was also my great-grandmother’s favorite animal as well :D!

Zoonash Syed (She/Her/Hers) is a Senior Pre-Law Public Health major on the Administration track at UMBC. Outside of UMBC, she enjoys watching shows as well as listening to music. Zoonash believes that leadership is about setting a responsible example for her peers as well as encouraging those around her to speak their minds. Her goals as a Leadership Peer Facilitator is to promote the multiple perspectives of what leadership can entail. Aside from being a Leadership Peer Facilitator, Zoonash takes part in SGA as a Senator, and is doing research work that will be presented at URCAD.
