MD Voter Ballot Box Now in The Commons
UMBC is ALL IN!
An official ballot dropoff box is now available in The Commons between the CIC desk and Flat Tuesdays. Any registered Maryland voter may submit a mail-in ballot. For more information, contact the Center for Democracy and Civic Life at civiclife@umbc.edu
President Sheares Ashby has signed the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge's commitment to 100% voter participation. UMBC has joined more than 625 college presidents and chancellors in committing to full student voter registration and participation in all elections. By signing the pledge, UMBC has committed to ensuring all eligible students are able to register to vote and cast informed ballots in the general elections and beyond. Further, the University has committed to fostering campus cultures that support nonpartisan student civic learning, political engagement and student voter participation.
The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge is a nonpartisan, national initiative of the 501c3 Civic Nation, recognizing and supporting campuses as they work to increase nonpartisan democratic engagement and full student voter participation. The Challenge encourages higher education institutions to help students form the habits of active and informed citizenship, and make democratic participation a core value on their campus.
In April 2023, UMBC was recognized for increasing democratic engagement, and Musa Jafri ‘24 was named to the Student Voting Honor Role.

Register to Vote in the 2024 Maryland Primary Election
Registration deadline is Tuesday, April 23
UMBC has a strong tradition of very active participation in state and national elections. This year, Marylanders will elect a new Senator as well as new state and federal legislators, and will participate in electing the President and Vice President of the United States. The Maryland primary election will take place on May 14, 2024. Between now and then, if you are registered to vote in Maryland, you can cast your vote on the UMBC campus by requesting a mail ballot and depositing the completed ballot in the drop-off box located in the lobby of The Commons.
Register to vote: If you are an eligible Maryland resident, you can use the
state's online portal to register. Maryland's deadline to register to vote in advance of the 2024 primary election is April 23. Whether you live in Maryland or not,
UMBC's voter registration portal can help you take the first steps to register and vote in your home state if you are eligible to do so.
Request a mail ballot, then vote in The Commons: Registered Maryland voters can complete an online request for a mail-in ballot
here. Once you have received and completed your ballot, you can submit it by placing it in the official Board of Elections drop-off box in the lobby of The Commons (near the Campus Information Center desk). No postage is necessary. The Board of Elections will pick up ballots placed in the box multiple times each week.
Make a pledge to vote: Every election year,
ALL IN to Vote hosts a Pledge to Vote leaderboard for university students across the country. UMBC placed #4 in the nation on the leaderboard in 2022. Students who plan to vote: Please
take the pledge, and spread the word.
Access Maryland and out-of-state voter resources: Find the latest information, including dates for early voting and deadlines to request mailed and electronic ballots, using the ALL IN to Vote portal hosted on the UMBC Center for Democracy and Civic Life
website.
Serve as election judge: The Baltimore County Board of Elections is
recruiting election judges to work at polling stations during the 2024 primary election. These are paid positions and an important public service.
Participate in civic and community engagement programs: Whether you are eligible to register to vote or not, you have a stake in your communities and can play an important role in shaping them. Follow the Center for Democracy and Civic Life's

On Campus: Meet on Commons Main Street
In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the Women's Center is proud to revive our once annual, much beloved Take Back the Night. On Thursday, April 25th, we invite you to join us on Commons Main Street--let's take back the night!!
Events and activities include:
- The Survivor Speak Out
(begins ~5:15 on Main Street)- Campus March Against Sexual Violence
- The Clothesline Project
- Community Resource Fair and Craftivism (including the opportunity to make Clothesline Project t-shirts,
Dear Survivor letters, and self-care takeaways) and We Believe You discussion group hosted in the Women's Center post-march.
There is limited seating for the survivor speak-out. We recommend you arrive early. As seating fills up, we encourage you to make your way up to the balcony area on the 2nd floor of The Commons. We also encourage you to check out the community resources as you're waiting for the speak-out to begin.
UMBC students who identify as survivors are invited to speak at the speak-out forum. You can contact the Women's Center for more details, but you do not have to sign up in advanced to speak at the forum.If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please contact the Women's Center at
womenscenter@umbc.edu for more details.
