<Title>Apply for Alternative Spring Break (ASB) 2023 by 11/22</Title>

    <div class="html-content">Alternative Spring Break (ASB) is a six-day immersive learning experience in which UMBC undergraduates explore the systemic and human dimensions of complex social issues in Baltimore. Participants build connections with local leaders, organizations, and policy makers and develop a sophisticated understanding of available resources and challenges. The program helps participants identify pathways to long-term community engagement.<br><br>ASB 2023 groups will focus on:<br><br><ul><li>Disability Justice (led by Preethi Badugu and Bella Guardado)</li><li>Educational Justice for Youth Impacted by Intimate Partner Violence (led by Musa Jafri and Liewawit Tafesse)</li><li>Health Equity (led by Nia Hopkins and Amina Musa)</li></ul><br>ASB 2023 will take place from March 19-24, 2023. You can find more information, including in-depth topic descriptions, on the <a href="https://forms.gle/A7i2JAZmjDMyoAM26" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">application form</a>.     <div class="html-content"><p>From October 22nd until October 26 with its peak day and main celebration on October 24th, 2022, <strong>Diwali</strong> is celebrated both religiously and culturally worldwide.</p><p> </p><p>Also known as “The Festival of Lights”, Diwali celebrates the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil with family gatherings, colorful lights, and fireworks. With the use of “<a href="https://www.trafalgar.com/real-word/diwali-story/#:~:text=In%20one%20of%20the%20main,of%20celebrations%20in%20some%20regions." rel="nofollow external" class="bo">diyas</a>” (lamps), households are all decorated in this celebration.</p><p> </p><p>Diwali is primarily celebrated by those of Hindu, Sikh, and Jain faiths, with a large cultural celebration by people throughout the world. Along with the light of diyas, fireworks are set off on the night of Diwali as a representation to ward off evil spirits.
