EBSCO Database Upgrade New Year, New Look
The library's EBSCO databases will be getting a makeover this January! EBSCO has a new interface that makes it easier to find and retrieve scholarly research sources. The databases that will be getting this upgrade include Academic Search Ultimate, PsycINFO, Medline, Political Science Complete, and others. The new interface looks like this, or you can click here for a sneak preview.


Folders and saved materials in your MyEBSCO account will continue to be available, and links to articles or databases will not need to be updated.


This change will not impact AOK OneSearch (the "Everything" tab on the library's homepage). OneSearch will be getting its own major upgrade in early summer 2024, so stay tuned for more details!

Applications for the Spring '24 MLE Cohort can be found HERE. 

The Multicultural Leadership Experience (MLE) is a collaboration between Campus Life and Initiatives for Identity Inclusion & Belonging (i3B), that seeks to: 

Engage participants in a multicultural development and leadership learning program; 
Enhance participants' understanding of their social identities, leader identity, as well as their capacity to lead; 
And enable participants' development through authenticity, self-awareness, relationships, and capitalizing on difference. 


The sessions are as follows:
 
- Meeting #1: Monday, February 12th, 3pm - 4:30pm
- Meeting #2: Monday, February 19th, 3pm - 4:30pm
- Meeting #3: Monday, March 4th, 3pm - 4:30pm
- Meeting #4: Monday, March 25th, 3pm - 4:30pm
- Meeting #5: Monday, April 8th, 3pm - 4:30pm
- Meeting #6: Monday, April 22nd, 3pm - 4:30pm 
- Meeting #7: Monday, May 6th, 3pm - 5:30pm
 
***All sessions will take place in The Commons (room location will be specified in a Google calendar invite)***

Participants will be exploring the concept of Authentic Leadership, Legacy Building, and Breaking Barriers of White Supremacy within Leadership. We will do this in a leadership learning cohort by: 
  • Enhancing participants' leader identity and leadership capacity using an identity-conscious lens and student development theories;
  • Increasing participants' awareness of their personal abilities, identity development, and intersections that shape their story through authenticity, self-reflection, and cultural humility;
  • Exploring the role they play in developing relationships while building intra/intercultural connections; 
  • And capitalizing on their differences, specifically in relation to their racial, ethnic, national, and other salient identity social groups
 
The purpose of all MLE programs is to provide a space for students and student leaders who identify within diverse or marginalized backgrounds to discover their own capacity to lead, while also promoting a better understanding of their experiences, issues, strengths, and outcomes in navigating their own collegiate careers. However, ALL students are welcome to apply!   
 
Registration is due Monday, January 29th, 2024 at 11:59pm. Both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to participate. In order to be accepted into the program you must commit to all sessions. Please answer all of the questions before submitting your registration. Applications for the Spring '24 MLE Cohort can be found HERE. 

The Multicultural Leadership Experience (MLE) is a collaboration between Campus Life and Initiatives for Identity Inclusion & Belonging (i3B), that seeks to: 

Engage participants in a multicultural development and leadership learning program; 
Enhance participants' understanding of their social identities, leader identity, as well as their capacity to lead; 
And enable participants' development through authenticity, self-awareness, relationships, and capitalizing on difference. 


The sessions are as follows:
 
- Meeting #1: Monday, February 12th, 3pm - 4:30pm
- Meeting #2: Monday, February 19th, 3pm - 4:30pm
- Meeting #3: Monday, March 4th, 3pm - 4:30pm
- Meeting #4: Monday, March 25th, 3pm - 4:30pm
- Meeting #5: Monday, April 8th, 3pm - 4:30pm
- Meeting #6: Monday, April 22nd, 3pm - 4:30pm 
- Meeting #7: Monday, May 6th, 3pm - 5:30pm
 
***All sessions will take place in The Commons (room location will be specified in a Google calendar invite)***

Participants will be exploring the concept of Authentic Leadership, Legacy Building, and Breaking Barriers of White Supremacy within Leadership. We will do this in a leadership learning cohort by: 
  • Enhancing participants' leader identity and leadership capacity using an identity-conscious lens and student development theories;
  • Increasing participants' awareness of their personal abilities, identity development, and intersections that shape their story through authenticity, self-reflection, and cultural humility;
  • Exploring the role they play in developing relationships while building intra/intercultural connections; 
  • And capitalizing on their differences, specifically in relation to their racial, ethnic, national, and other salient identity social groups
 
The purpose of all MLE programs is to provide a space for students and student leaders who identify within diverse or marginalized backgrounds to discover their own capacity to lead, while also promoting a better understanding of their experiences, issues, strengths, and outcomes in navigating their own collegiate careers. However, ALL students are welcome to apply!   
 
Registration is due Monday, January 29th, 2024 at 11:59pm. Both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to participate. In order to be accepted into the program you must commit to all sessions. Please answer all of the questions before submitting your registration. Dear UMBC Community, 

As the weather grows colder, we want to take this opportunity to update you on UMBC's response to inclement weather and our policies and procedures for weather-related delays and closures. 

If you have not done so already, please sign up for our emergency text alerts. This is the most effective way to receive urgent updates for weather-related delays, closures, and campus emergencies. In addition to text alerts, we will also post alerts on both the UMBC homepage and myUMBC. 

Please note that the decision to close campus or open late applies to the UMBC campus only. For community members not located on campus, please follow the protocols for your specific location. This includes: 


When it becomes necessary to close the campus for inclement weather, employees designated as essential personnel must report. Decisions about Administrative Leave for all other employees will be made based on the weather conditions that day and communicated accordingly. 

If campus remains open, please use personal judgment when traveling to and from campus as weather and road conditions vary by your personal location. The decision about whether it is safe to travel ultimately rests with each individual. Please be sure to communicate early and often with your supervisor should you have any concerns. It is our goal to keep you safe and warm this winter.
