Every month, the National Residence Hall Honorary selects a number of
individuals, events, and organizations to recognize for the outstanding
contributions they make to the UMBC community. As part of this
recognition, any nomination that we select for recognition as Campus
Winner is sent on to a Regional Committee, part of the Central Atlantic
Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls, for consideration
for more awards. In November of this year, more Residential Life staff members were selected for a number of awards by this
committee. This month, we are very proud to congratulate three more
members of the UMBC Residential Community for their selection as
Regional Winners!
Susquehanna Desk Manager David Brinsfield has done an outstanding job keeping his staff fully functional. With several desk staffers having to quit their job for various reasons, David has worked constantly to hire new staff members and train them for their new duties. David has also contributed beyond the limits of his position. Despite not being a member of NRHH, he assisted members of NRHH with a presentation they were scheduled to give at an upcoming Regional conference. Erickson Resident Assistant Patricia Orrence held an "Ace of Cupcakes" program in November to advertise for Residential Life's annual Benchmarking Survey. To help attract residents to her program and encourage them to take the survey, Patricia provided lots of cupcakes with homemade fondant icing. In order to respect the dietary needs of her residents, some of whom are vegetarian or vegan, Patricia provided special vegan cupcakes and Persian teas that would not violate their dietary restrictions. Jackie Wilson is Residential Life's Assistant Director for Operations. During the past month, Jackie has been going above and beyond the expectations of her position. With the winter break approaching, Jackie is often busy helping residents negotiate breaking their housing contracts and changing room assignments as residents switch roommates. This year, however, Jackie has also taken on additional responsibility with the absence of two Community Directors, assisting with roommate meditations, running the annual Benchmarking Survey, and several other additional tasks. NRHH congratulates all of these individuals for their outstanding service to UMBC. We wish them the best of luck as their nominations continue to the National Committee, and as they continue to be models of outstanding leaders here on campus.
