    <div class="html-content"><div><div><p><strong><span>MUSEUM STUDIES FELLOW AT SOUTH DAKOTA STATE UNIVERSITY</span></strong></p><p><strong><span>CALL FOR PROPOSALS</span></strong></p><p><strong><span> </span></strong></p><p><span>The School of Design and the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at South Dakota State University invite applications for a new Museum Studies Fellow for the spring and summer 2023. This fellowship initiative has been made possible thanks to combined funding from the FUNd for Museum Studies and the Elizabeth Firestone Graham Foundation.</span></p><p><span>South Dakota State University offers the only program in Museum Studies across the state.<span> Founded<span> </span>in<span> </span>2015,<span> the </span>Museum Studies<span> </span>at<span> </span>SDSU<span> </span>is<span> </span>a<span> dynamic, </span>robust, collaborative and interdisciplinary<span> minor</span>. It provides students with<span> </span>a solid background in<span> </span>the<span> </span>preservation and presentation of cultural materials and artifacts, as well<span> </span>as in communication, design, and management skills.</span></span></p><p><span>Our minor is shaped and delivered as an academic-professional partnership with five institutions in Brookings: <span>the<span> </span>South<span> </span>Dakota<span> </span>Art<span> </span>Museum,<span> </span>the<span> </span>South<span> </span>Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum, the<span> </span>Children's Museum of<span> </span>South Dakota, McCrory Gardens, and<span> </span>SDSU's Archives and<span> </span>Special Collections at<span> </span>Hilton M. Briggs Library. The minor’s operations are managed within the School of Design, an interdisciplinary academic unit housing programs in Art Education, Studio Art, Graphic Design, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Interior Design.</span></span></p><p><span>The Museum Studies Fellow will be a graduate student (Master’s or PhD) with a Museum Studies backgroun<span>d or some experience in collecting institutions, for instance museums, library archives, public gardens, state or national parks, or historic sites.</span></span></p><p><span>The Fellow will be actively involved in our spring 2023 Introduction to Museum Studies course and in our Summer 2023 Internships. They will shadow the Instructor of Record, visit all the partner institutions, be involved in the class activities, share insights with our undergraduate students. The fellow will also be actively involved with our partner institutions here in Brookings throughout the fellowship.</span></p><p><span>During the spring semester, the Fellow will deliver a public lecture centered on their own exhibition record, career path, research, and/or relevant experiences in the field. <span></span></span></p><p><span>The Fellow<span> </span>will be required to submit a<span> </span>progress report periodically throughout the fellowship and a final report at<span> </span>the<span> end of the </span>fellowship period. The report will be detailing the activities<span> </span>completed throughout<span> </span>the<span> </span>duration of<span> </span>the<span> </span>project and the learning that occurred; it will<span> </span>provide insights<span> </span>on<span> </span>how<span> </span>this multi-layered mentoring model has contributed to the Fellow's professional growth.</span></p><p><span>The Fellow will receive a $19,046 all-inclusive stipend to travel and live in Brookings for seven months, from January 7 to August 7, 2023. We will assist in identifying housing options.<span></span></span></p><p><span>We are excited that our interdisciplinary vision is further expanding through partnership with three prestigious institutions in New York: the Brooklyn Museum; the National Park Services (Roosevelt and Vanderbilt homes in Hyde Park, NY); and the Brooklyn Children’s Museum</span><span>.<span> The fellow will be given an additional $2,000 stipend to travel to New York City to visit the museums of our out-of-state partners, talk with some of the staff, and catch a glimpse on connections between the fine arts, architecture, landscape architecture, industrial design in institutions, whose strengths complement those already present in Brookings.</span></span></p><p><span><span><br></span></span></p><p><span>A complete application package will include:</span><span></span></p><p><span><br></span></p><ul><li><span>The applicant’s full CV.</span></li></ul><ul><li><span>A statement of academic research and/or professional experience in the museum field (including past internships).</span></li></ul><ul><li><span>A statement explaining how the applicant envisions this fellowship program to benefit the progression of their career.</span></li></ul><p><span> </span></p><p><span>Please, <strong>email your application to Dr. Leda Cempellin, the Museum Studies Coordinator and Associate Director of the School of Design (</strong></span><span><a href="mailto:Leda.Cempellin@sdstate.edu" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><strong><span>Leda.Cempellin@sdstate.edu</span></strong></a></span><strong><span>) by no later than September 20<sup>th</sup>, 2022.</span></strong><span> Finalists will be selected among the applicants for a Zoom interview during the month of October and the Fellow will be finalized by early November.</span></p><div><span><br></span></div></div></div></div>

Together with creators and storytellers of all kinds, we’re actively redefining the role of museums in society and building the largest archive of Baltimore stories in the world.</span><span> </span></p><p><span>The Exhibitions and Projects Manager oversees the Peale’s exhibitions including scheduling and managing exhibitions, virtual experiences, artist residencies, in-house openings and special projects. The Exhibitions and Projects Manager is a 20 hrs/ week position that works in partnership with the Chief Operations Officer, Chief Curator and Community Learning and Engagement Manager on direction, strategy and long-term planning of the Peale. The Exhibitions Manager directs Peale staff on the planning and execution of diverse, inclusive, and dynamic exhibitions in keeping with the Peale’s mission.</span><span> </span></p><p><span>Primary Duties and Responsibilities </span></p><ul><li><ul><li><span>Field exhibition proposals from artists, makers, storytellers and Community Partners. </span><span> </span></li><li><span>Review exhibition proposals quarterly and program the yearly season.</span><span> </span><span> </span></li><li><span>Collaborate with CAO on all contractual agreements; budget development, administration, and fiscal reporting. </span><span> </span></li><li><span>Manage all artist communication and site visits. </span><span> </span></li><li><span>Coordinate and implement install and de-install of all exhibitions in collaboration with curators, artists and support staff.</span> <span> </span></li><li><span>Lead and support the installation of exhibitions including light design, art installation, label and wall text etc. </span><span> </span></li><li><span>Work with Accessibility Manager to implement and refine accessibility requirements and features for exhibitions.</span><span> </span></li><li><span>Lead all exhibition related event production</span><span>, including coordination with Peale staff, presenters, vendors, on and offline.</span><span> </span></li><li><span>Works closely with the </span><span>Community Learning and Engagement Manager on the yearly programmatic season.</span><span> </span></li><li><span>Collaborate with marketing/communication staff to ensure that all exhibition and public</span> <span>programs are appropriately and actively promoted to relevant contacts. </span><span> </span></li><li><span>Work with Peale staff, board, artists in residence, and guest curators to develop and implement Peale Core Stories (“permanent exhibitions”).</span><span> </span></li><li><span>Work with Chief Curator to schedule and host Peale produced exhibitions (1-2 annually) </span><span> </span></li><li><span>Prepare reports and compile information on program activities and other related activities, as requested.</span><span> </span></li><li><span>Develop and manage additional special projects which may include </span><span>Artist Residencies</span><span> and </span><span>Artist Exchanges</span><span> </span><span> </span></li></ul></li></ul><ul><li><span>Desired Characteristics and Knowledge </span></li></ul><ul><li><ul><li><span>Commitment to the Peale’s vision, mission and values </span><span> </span></li><li><span>Experience with designing and installing exhibitions, art handling, and lighting design </span><span> </span></li><li><span>Proficiency in Microsoft Suite </span><span> </span></li><li><span>A creative, multisensory and immersive designer who is energized and excited by a flexible and experimental environment</span><span> </span></li><li><span>Operations and management experience in a museum or nonprofit organization </span><span> </span></li><li><span>Experience with project management, including conceptualizing and executing projects, and managing multiple projects simultaneously</span><span> </span></li><li><span>Experience working with artists, storytellers and creators of all disciplines</span><span> </span></li><li><span>Experience with event and program planning and execution</span><span> </span></li><li><span>Demonstrated success in working with a culturally diverse community </span><span> </span></li><li><span>Ability to continually develop skills related to use of rapidly changing technology and communications practices</span><span> </span></li><li><span>Experience working in an environment serving the public </span><span> </span></li><li><span>Ability to adapt and be flexible and self-directed in a dynamic work environment </span><span> </span></li><li><span>Ability to successfully interact and collaborate with key stakeholders to achieve results</span><span> </span></li><li><span>Bold, open, celebratory, grounded and professional </span><span> </span></li><li><span>Commitment to learn, build upon, and implement inclusive design best practices in installation and exhibit production</span></li></ul></li></ul><ul><li>Frequently cited statistics show that women, trans, and non-binary people, as well as other structurally marginalized groups apply to jobs only if they meet 100% of the qualifications.     <div class="html-content"><p>ART 427 is offered spring 2022, 9 am - 12:30 pm on Wednesdays. </p><p><br>The course includes several field trips to local galleries and museums. Off campus trips will be scheduled to allow time to return to campus before the end of the class so that classes immediately following are not impacted.</p><p>Using active learning techniques the class presents opportunities to learn skills that can be immediately applied to entry level gallery work or museum internships.</p><p>Some prerequisites may be waived. Contact instructor at <a href="mailto:abbotts@umbc.edu">abbotts@umbc.edu</a> with any questions or to request a prerequisite waiver.</p><div><div><br></div><div><p><strong>Course Description</strong></p><p>This project-based course is designed to help students gain insight and expertise in key components of museum and gallery work (e.g. curating, exhibition design, collection management, and public programming). Students learn and train under the guidance of an instructor experienced and knowledgeable about the art museum world. By the end of the semester students will have gained an invaluable preparatory training for career opportunities with art museums, art galleries and like institutions involved with the public display of historical and cultural material.</p><p><br></p><p><span>Please note, the course is listed as a hybrid this spring, so that if needed we can seamlessly pivot to an online course. For the most part, however, classes will take place at UMBC or off campus institutions in the area.</span></p></div></div></div>

    <div class="html-content"><div><div><div><strong>SPARK Exhibition Intern</strong></div><div>Seeking an Exhibition Intern to work with the Curator and Assistant Curator of the upcoming SPARK V exhibition and related programming, which presents to work of UMBC and Towson University faculty and student artists, at the Peale Museum in Baltimore from mid-January to mid-April.<br><br>This role will generally support the planning and execution of programming at the Peale Museum and, with active mentorship, take a gradually increasing leadership role in producing aspects of the SPARK exhibition that highlight UMBC and Towson University student artwork.<br><br>Ideally, this will be an internship for credit for a student with a major or minor in Art History and Museum Studies but those with other majors are welcome to apply. It is now rescheduled for Sunday, 10/24 at 4 pm.</span></p><p><strong><br></strong></p><p><strong>UMBC's Joseph Beuys Tree Partnership 20th Anniversary Celebration and<br></strong><strong><em>Arboretum, by </em>Robert Morris, Performed by UMBC's RUCKUS &amp; Music Department,</strong></p><p><strong>A UMBC <em>Livewire </em>Event<br></strong></p><p>On Sunday, October 24th the campus will host UMBC's annual new music festival, <em>Livewire</em>. At 4 pm, RUCKUS, the new music ensemble-in-residence, will be joined by additional faculty and student performers to present a special performance of Robert Morris’s <em>Arboretum</em>. <br><br></p><p><em>Arboretum</em> is a concert-length work designed as an immersive experience. Performers move around the Sculpture Park as they play, and audience members are encouraged to move as well, changing their perspective on the work over its duration.     <div class="html-content"><div><div><div><span><p><strong>Notre Dame of Maryland University</strong></p><p>Notre Dame of Maryland University (NDMU) is a private, independent institution anchored in the lovely Homeland neighborhood of Baltimore city with outreach programs in the state serving central and southern Maryland and the Eastern Shore.  Founded as a Catholic women's college in 1897, NDMU now a comprehensive university, offers baccalaureate degree in the women's college and co-ed undergraduate programs for adults, and graduate programs through the School of Arts, Sciences, and Business; School of Education; School of Nursing; and School of Pharmacy. </p><p> </p><p><strong>Job Description</strong></p><p>Notre Dame of Maryland University in Baltimore is seeking a Guest Curator for a one-year, part-time appointment. The Guest Curator will work with the Gallery Director and report to the Chair of the Art Department. In addition to assisting the Director in planning and implementing the gallery's schedule of exhibitions, the Guest Curator will curate an exhibition for the University gallery. The Guest Curator will also work with the Gallery Director to gain knowledge of grant administration, curatorial practice, and arts management. The Gallery Director will support the successful candidate to: curate an exhibition; write curatorial statements for brochures, press releases, publicity material and social media, as well as prepare didactic test for exhibitions; present a curator's talk and organize artists' talks, assist with handling and installing art; develop special programming; and work with student gallery assistants.  There may also be an opportunity for the Guest Curator to teach a course in the Art Department in their area of expertise.</p></span></div></div></div><div><div>Qualifications</div></div><div><div><div><span><p>An MFA, MA, or enrolled in graduate program in Art History, Museum Studies, or another visual art discipline. My duties include scholarly research, the design of activities, the writing of budgets, the obtainment of materials, the creation of prototypes, and the interaction with visitors on the floor of the museum. </span></p><p><span><strong>Describe the process of obtaining your position. When did you hear of the position and submit your application?</strong></span></p><p><span>I heard of this position in early October of 2020 and subsequently submitted my application on October 12th. </span></p><p><span><strong>What have you enjoyed the most about your position or organization? </strong></span></p><p><span>Amongst my peers, I often find myself alone in my interest in religious art. It is a great joy to work amongst colleagues who share my profound interest in biblical history and theology. </span></p><p><span><strong>How do you believe you have made an impact through your work?</strong></span></p><p><span>The education carts which I am in the process of developing will serve as the face of the museum.
