Refugee Youth Project ArtWorks Internship

<Tagline>Work w/ refugee youth & make culturally sig. art w/ ArtWorks</Tagline>

About Us

Baltimore City Community College Refugee Youth Project (BCCC RYP) provides after-school and summer programs to refugee students grades K-12. They receive tutoring, mentoring, English classes, STEM education, special workshops, and art courses. Each year, RYP serves over 300 students with the assistance of nearly 300 volunteers.

ArtWorks is a social enterprise founded by RYP in December 2012. Students create African necklaces, prayer flags, scented candles, and similar culturally relevant products. This year, ArtWorks is expanding from festival sales to multiple consignment agreements, gallery showings, and an online store.

Election Night Extravaganza T-Shirt, November 6, 2012. Student Life Archives. Cared for by David Hoffman. University of Maryland, Baltimore County (Baltimore, MD)

In 2004, UMBC's Student Government Association organized a gathering of the UMBC community to watch that year's US presidential election results, talk politics, and enjoy free food, games, and music. The SGA's goal was to make the election a community experience where UMBC students could get involved and excited about political elections while being actively involved in the UMBC community. Over 1,000 students, faculty, and staff members attended the event that would become known as UMBC's first Election Night Extravaganza.
