Apply for a Dresher Center Faculty Research Fellowship The Dresher Center for the Humanities invites applications for two Residential Faculty Research Fellowships in Academic Year 2019-20. One Faculty Fellow will be in residence in Fall 2019 and one in Spring 2020. The UMBC Faculty Research Fellows will join our residential Inclusion Imperative Visiting Faculty Fellows in the Dresher Center. Dresher Center fellowships offer the gift of time, space, and collegial conversation within a robust humanities center environment which will, in turn, enhance the UMBC conversation surrounding inclusive excellence.

Dresher Center Residential Faculty Research Fellowship applications for Fall 2019 are due on November 1, 2018. Applications for Spring 2020 are due on April 1, 2019.

We welcome proposals from full-time, tenure-track and tenured faculty pursuing humanities research in the UMBC College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Applications are especially encouraged from, but not limited to, full-time faculty with appointments in departments and programs with a humanities focus. Two fellowships are available annually (one per semester). Applicants should mark on the application form whether they are applying for Fall 2019 or Spring 2020. Proposals will be reviewed by the Dresher Center Advisory Board.

With sadness we share with you that Darlene Houck, retired Administrative Assistant at the AOK Library and Gallery, passed away on September 26th, 2018.

Darlene Houck first worked as a temporary office secretary for the Library in 1984. Her accuracy and prodigious output earned her a permanent position. She was always willing to learn something new. Over the years she took on acquisitions and cataloging work as well as numerous projects and other responsibilities for the Library Technical Services Department. She retired in 2016 with over 30 years of service.

She is survived by her husband Michael Houck, and sons Andrew and MJ Houck. A celebration will be held in her honor:

UMBC’s Idea Competition is designed to challenge you to do just that, and we are offering $750 for the most innovative idea! Applications are due October 11, 2018.

Submit your idea online via the entry form. The top entries will be judged, live, by a panel of professionals and alumni along with a crowd of students at the final competition held November 15, 2018, in the Sports Zone in The Commons. The top 3 winners, determined by the results of student and panel voting, will receive cash prizes up to $750.
