Once again, the MSA Cabinet welcomes you back to UMBC! We pray for a successful semester in sha Allah, and are excited to share what we have planned for you!
The UMBC MSA has a Musallah, more commonly known as the Interfaith Center (IFC), by the grace of Allah (SWT). We encourage all students on campus to take time out and join us in the Musallah for Salah, halaqat, or just to chill out.
LOCATION OF IFC: The IFC is a big trailer located right next to the Public Policy building, and right across the library and Erickson Field. Look for bright yellow banners along the trailer! If you can’t find it, ask any Muslim on campus!

This potluck marks the beginning of all MSA activities, as our weekly activities will begin this coming Monday (week of September 8th) in sha Allah. The full schedule will be announced at the potluck and can also be found below:

ISLAMIC AWARENESS WEEK, DAY 5: THE GRAND FINALE!!!
OPEN JUMMAH & DIVINE MERCY
Abu Hurairah (RA) reports that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "The best day on which the sun rises is Friday. [On Friday] Adam (AS) was created and on that day he entered paradise and on that day he was expelled from paradise. And the Hour will come to pass on Friday." [Muslim]
Friday is the BEST of days. Our Prophet (SAW) referred to it as a day of Eid. It is a day of blessing and of festivity. For all of these reasons and more, we have saved the BEST of Islamic Awareness Week for last!
TOMORROW Friday, April 4th, in sha Allah from 1:15pm - 3pm, join in for OUTDOOR Open Jummah Prayer on ERICKSON FIELD, right across from the library! In the situation that it rains, our back up location will be the Interfaith Center/IFC.
In sha Allah, the Khateeb will be Brother Jose Acevedo. He is currently serving as the Arabic/Islamic Studies and Quran Chair at the Al Rahmah School, along with teaching the Quran Academy students various subjects, and also along with being the Youth Director at ISB (formerly at Darul Hijrah). Brother Jose is well known in the DMV area and is a very powerful speaker, so this will be one Jummah experience you won't want to miss!
Afterwards, the excitement for Divine Mercy will finally get real! Join us for the BIGGEST EVENT EVER in the history of the UMBC MSA! Divine Mercy: Hidden blessings of supporting disabled orphan children.
In sha Allah, the big event will be taking place from 7pm - 11pm at the Loft Ballroom in Laurel, MD, and baby sitting will be available for kids 12 years and under.
We have a loaded line up for you all as we gather together to raise funds for a great cause. Joining us for our event will be: Sheikh Yaseen, Sheikh AbdulRaouf Alkhawaldeh, Brother Joshua Salaam from Native Deen, and we will have featured performances from comedians Azhar Usman & Preacher Moss from Allah Made Me Funny.

The Prophet (saw) was a man who showed compassion to EVERY living being especially orphan children and those with special needs. Now who wouldn’t want to beautify their souls and the souls of those around them by showing this same compassion?
Join the MSA on Wednesday, April 2nd, insha’Allah from 11 AM – 2 PM in the QUAD for “Open Worship”. This will be a special edition of our weekly open spaces discussion as it will be open to the entire public (Great Da’wah!) and led by the honorable Sister Madiha Tahseen-Hammad, a student pursuing her PhD in Psychology. The topic of this interactive discussion will be the importance of showing compassion to orphan children and those with special needs. Afterwards, we will be praying Salatul Dhuhr in congregation on the quad! Don’t miss out on this awesome conversation and opportunity to give da’wah!
Then… Wednesday evening from 6-9 PM, the MSA will be having a Game Night in the Commons Game Room insha’Allah. Come out for an evening of pool, ping-pong, video games and a bunch of other fun activities! Bring your friends, bring your siblings – it’s a party!

The Prophet (SAW)’s society showed mutual support, cooperation, and unity in consoling, honoring, and respecting those with special needs. The actions of our merciful Prophet (SAW) teach us that we should give extra love and support to the disabled.
Join us TOMORROW Tuesday, April 1st, in sha Allah from 11am-2pm in Commons (either Main Street or Breezeway - stay tuned for updates) as we make "Kards 4 Kids," as a way to comfort children facing different hardships in life. All of the cards we make will be sent overseas to disabled orphan children. And if you haven't heard already, the April 4th Divine Mercy event is a fundraiser to support these same children and help with their rehabilitation. UMBC-MSA wishes you a very spiritual and joyous Ramadan. May Allah (swt) bless you and your families with abundant blessings in this blessed month of Ramadan. As you know, the fall semester will begin in the middle of Ramadan.
Insha-Allah, the UMBC MSA will host iftars on campus from the first day of school (Tuesday, August 31st) until the end of Ramadan on every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. (Aug 31, Sept 1, Sept 2, Sept 7, Sept 8, Sept 9)
If you wish to sponsor an Iftar on campus, you can do so by filling out an online form that is available at http://www.umbcmsa.org/iftar-sign-up/ .
The form will also be sent out on the UMBA MSA Mailing list. Please read the Iftar Sign-up Rules at http://www.umbcmsa.org/iftar-rules/ before signing up to sponsor an iftar.
If you wish to donate dates or sodas for the iftar, please let us know by replying to this message.
