Information Regarding Financial Aid
posted almost 11 years ago
A little lengthy, but a message from one of our MSA Adviser regarding Financial Aid:
Assalamu Alaikum everyone.
I am passing on to the community what I was Alhumdulillah blessed to have during my time in College, which is information about Scholarships and grants. These Scholarships and grants are easy to get. Alhumdulillah I haven't spent a single dime to pay for School based on the information. Please go through these websites carefully as it might enable yourself, your family members, friends or your children to go college for free or at a lower cost.
Most important one: Federal Pell Grant
The Federal Pell Grant is awarded by the U.S. Department of Education and is based on the Expected Family Contribution (EFC). The EFC is determined by information entered on the FAFSA. Pell Grants are awarded to both full and part-time undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor's or professional degree.

More info about grants. http://studentaid.ed.gov/types/grants-scholarships/pell
Please go through the link above and read the instructions. Make an account for whichever you feel that yourself or your children will qualify for.
Second most important
Local government grants and scholarships: Our local Delegates and Senators gives lots of money to people with needs. Those who are not in Maryland please ask them to search online and ask their schools for information.
Main site: http://www.mhec.state.md.us/financialAid/descriptions.asp
Use the following website to figure out who is their senator, delegate based on district. Once they get that info, they search online for scholarships from them or call their offices.
Locators: http://mdelect.net/FutureLegistlativeDistricts2015/index.html
Ex: Someone from district 12, which is Catonsville/Baltimore area.
