Academic Support Services For A Successful Semester

Hello Scholars!

We hope the first few weeks of the semester have been going well! As you settle into your classes, we wanted to remind you of the many academic support services that are available to students through the Academic Success Center.

The Academic Success Center serves as a one-stop hub for a variety of services including Academic Policy support, Academic Learning Resources, and Academic Advocacy.

New Resources this Spring 2021 Semester:

The Math and Science Tutoring Center is back online to provide drop-in assistance for many Math and Science courses at UMBC. Students who have quick questions about Math or Science concepts can use the Math and Science Tutoring Center for drop-in assistance Sunday - Thursday from 5:00-9:00 p.m.  

The Computing Success Center is online to provide drop-in assistance for Computer Science and Information Systems courses Monday - Friday, 11:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.

Happy First Day of Classes Scholars!

Although this is an unusual way to begin the semester, UMBC has a lot of great resources in place to support you as you navigate your courses this Fall. The Academic Success Center has created an Online Learning Resources Module with content and activities to help you prepare for success at online learning.

You can also find Tips for Online Learning, videos on Time Management, Study Skills and Getting Help, plus a presentation on how to prepare for final exams.  

Be sure to check out all of the great resources The Academic Success Center has in place to to support you throughout the semester including Tutoring, Writing Center, SI PASS, Academic Success Meetings.

As a friendly reminder, all merit scholarship recipients are required to maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) and successfully complete at least 12+ credits (6+ credits for transfer students) each semester. Since mid-terms are quickly approaching, we have provided you the following list of accessible resources on campus to ensure you successfully meet the terms of your scholarship agreement 

●Arrange a meeting with an academic advisor at the Advising Services Department to discuss success strategies.

●Utilize Student Support and Tutoring Services for peer and tutoring resources.

● Visit the Learning Resources Center for learning assistance services.

● Schedule a one-on-one meeting with your professors to validate you are obtaining the accurate information in lectures and/or labs.

At the end of the fall semester, the Merit Scholarship Review Committee will review your academic record and confirm compliance with your scholarship requirements.
