UMBC M.E.-led Research Highlighted in APS Press Release
Prof. Carlos Romero-Talamás' research in Fusion Energy!
Every year, the American
Physical Society's Division of Plasma Physics (APS-DPP) highlights high-impact and
transformational research as part of their annual meeting on a variety of topics
in plasma physics. The research team led by Prof. Romero-Talamás is
investigating a new type of fusion energy reactor with the Centrifugal Mirror
Fusion Experiment, which aims to achieve sustained temperatures exceeding 10
million degrees Fahrenheit. The research is a collaboration between UMBC and
the University of Maryland, College Park.

CWIT Donor-Supported Scholarship Applications Open Now!
COEIT Students: Apply via Scholarship Retriever by August 5
The Center for Women in Technology periodically receives donations from individuals and organizations who want to support students through scholarships. We are currently accepting applications for these Donor-Supported Scholarships for the 2022-23 academic year. Current COEIT undergraduate students of all genders in good academic standing are welcome to apply. The awards will be made by the beginning of the Fall 2022 semester, and range in amount from $1000 to $3000 for the academic year. Eligible students will be able to view the opportunity in Scholarship Retriever: https://umbc.academicworks.com/

ME students attended the Capture The Flag competition on April 30. The event was hosted by Dr. TseHuai Wu.
More than 90 teams around the world joined this 4-hour long cybersecurity event virtually.
Participants must reverse engineer, break, hack, decrypt, and think creatively and critically to solve the challenges and capture the flags.
