The Center for Global Engagement will be hosting the International Education Expo on November 21st from 11:00am-3:00pm in the University Center Ballroom on the 3rd floor.
The expo will feature:

CWIT is seeking to hire two undergraduate student assistants to support CWIT programs, events, and operations.
(1) The Social Media Student Assistant will manage and improve CWIT's social media presence, and help us develop policy around social media use.
(2) The General Student Assistant will work with CWIT staff assisting with a variety of tasks, from managing information and records to designing communication materials to staffing the front desk.
Both positions are for 10 hours/week and pay $15-17/hour, depending on level of experience.

Data Science Scholars
A paid opportunity for teaching & research experience
We are pleased to announce the Undergraduate Data Science Scholars (DSS) program for supporting
students in COEIT for Fall 2024. The DSS program welcomes undergraduate scholars from multiple
disciplines looking at all aspects of data and its impact on society.
This year scholars will have the
opportunity to be teaching fellows or research fellows. Scholars will have an opportunity to work on
research projects in Climate Science, Deep fake detection, data storytelling, learning analytics and
other data science related projects.

The COEIT cohort of students selected through this effort will be part of the Data Science Scholars
program and will be run in partnership with the Center for Women in Technology, and the IS
department. There will be a similar model in partnership with the Center for Social Science
Scholarship.
Scholars charge: Scholars will work as peer mentors for undergraduate students in the IS 296:
Foundations of Data Science class and support their course project development. The scholars will
devote time to mentoring and leadership development efforts for their advancement.
Specifically:
(a) The scholars will be paid $20.00/hour for specific tasks supporting students in data science
classes, Dr. Chen’s class meets Monday/Wednesday 10a - 11:15a (ITE 237) and Ms. Zaidi’s class
meets on Monday 4:30p - 7:00p (ITE 241).
For these activities, scholars will be expected to devote
5-10 hours per week for the Fall 2024 semester of assigned work. The cohort will be expected to meet
as a group with the IS 296 faculty members.
(b) In addition, the scholars will be required to attend at least 2 CWIT events, and/or participate in
CWIT professional development for their leadership growth and mentoring per semester; scholars will
need to register as CWIT Affiliates in order to do so:
Background/skills:
The scholars should have knowledge in at least one of the following:
● Knowledge of python or one of the Data science tools and/or languages (such as Rapid Miner,
Weka, Orange, Knime, ML on cloud computing, python)
● Used Jupyter notebooks with python or took IS 296 in a prior semester.

Apply to be a CWIT Peer Mentor for the 2024-2025 school year!
The purpose of the CWIT Peer Mentoring program is to promote academic success, offer career/internship guidance, and support social connectivity for new CWIT students.
The time commitment for this position is around 15-19 hours a semester (you can see a full time commitment breakdown on the application) and as a Peer Mentor, you will be mentoring up to three mentees. Not only will you have the opportunity to help guide new Scholars/Affiliates, but you will also be compensated $150 in Retriever Dollars each semester you serve as Peer Mentor. The full responsibilities and expectations of being a Peer Mentor can be found on the application.

CWIT Donor-Supported Scholarship Applications Open Now!
COEIT Students: Apply via Scholarship Retriever by June 7
The Center for Women in Technology periodically receives donations from individuals and organizations who want to support students through scholarships. We are currently accepting applications for these Donor-Supported Scholarships for the 2024-25 academic year. Current COEIT undergraduate students of all genders in good academic standing are welcome to apply. The awards will be made by the beginning of the Fall 2024 semester, and range in amount from $1000 to $3000 for the academic year. Eligible students will be able to view the opportunity in Scholarship Retriever: https://umbc.academicworks.com/
