This year's speaker is Tina Kuhn, the vice president of the Security and Information Operations (S&IO) business unit under the Cyber Solutions division at Northrop Grumman. The S&IO business unit provides intelligence-related systems and services to U.S. Government and international security customers. The organization’s focus is on full-spectrum cyber solutions that protect critical national systems and support the nation’s information dominance.

As a joint effort between CWIT SC, ASME, ISCOM, and SWE, Let's GetTechyis a project that brings in middle school students to UMBC and allows them to cycle through three different activities IT, Engineering, & Campus Tour. We target middle school students because research has shown that is the time when kids start thinking about what they want to be when they grow up and what subjects they like and don't like.

So come help inspire the next generation of computing and engineering innovators! This semester the event is being held on Friday, April 5th. We promise this experience will be rewarding. :)
 
CWIT Student Council & ISCOM are co-hosting the IT activity, but you're welcome to volunteer for any of the activities.

Proposals are still being accepted to present at the 3rd Annual CWIT Showcase. They are due by the end of the day today, Monday, March 25. The proposal form only takes a few minutes! Complete it today! 
 
This event offers an experience similar to that of a professional conference and provides you with the chance to practice presentation skills in order to be prepared for future opportunities.

The Showcase will be held on Friday, April 12, 2013, from 4-6 p.m. Proposals for presentations are now being accepted from CWIT and T-SITE scholars, affiliates, and other students in the College of Engineering and Information Technology (COEIT).

The Center for Women in Technology (CWIT) celebrates scholarship, engagement, and leadership excellence in information technology and engineering students within the COEIT at UMBC. Proposals are now being accepted for presentations from all students in the CWIT community and the college. Sessions will be completely student-run and presentations will be directed to a peer audience. Inspiration, innovation, and creativity in presentations are encouraged.

Please find the call for proposals and application attached. Applications are due by Monday, March 25, and those selected will be notified by Wednesday, March 27, in order to have time to prepare the presentations. DoIT is looking for students that have done web development, digital stories, or mobile app development.

Applicants should have experience in one of the three areas:
1. web programming or game development and have an interest in mobile application development;
2. web page design and information architecture of web sites; OR
3. Digital storytelling, video editing, or writing experience for the web.

Under the internship, students will make $10/hour and are expected to work 25 hours a week for 10 weeks in the summer. Proposals for presentations are now being accepted from CWIT and T-SITE scholars, affiliates, and other students in the College of Engineering and Information Technology (COEIT).  

 

The Center for Women in Technology (CWIT) celebrates scholarship, engagement, and leadership excellence in information technology and engineering students within the COEITat UMBC. Proposals are now being accepted for presentations from all students in the CWIT community and the college. Sessions will be completely student-run and presentations will be directed to a peer audience. Inspiration, innovation, and creativity in presentations are encouraged.  This event offers an experience similar to that of a professional conference and provides the chance to practice presentation skills in order to be prepared for future opportunities.

The Information Trust Institute (ITI), a national leader in combining research and education with industrial outreach in trustworthy and secure information systems, invites undergraduates to apply for Undergraduate Research Internship awards for Summer 2013. Selected students will be supervised by ITI researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign who are leading experts in a number of information trust, information assurance, and security research areas.

All interns will receive stipends and housing. The duration of the internships will be 8-10 weeks. The main program will run from June 3 to July 27; if those dates conflict with your academic calendar, other start and end dates may be considered.


ELIGIBILITY:

Applicants should be undergraduate students at any university, in their second or third year, who have completed some technical course work in computing. Applicants who will have completed their third (junior) year are preferred. Both U.S. and international students who are residing in the U.S. are welcome to apply.
