    <div class="html-content"><p><span>UMBC International Education Services (IES) and the English Language Institute (ELI) have begun planning </span><span>International Education Week 2020</span><span>! IEW is a joint initiative between the US Department of State and the Department of Education hosted by universities annually in mid-November. It’s an opportunity to highlight international initiatives on campus, celebrate the international student population, and expose domestic students to international experiences they would not otherwise know. </span></p><p> </p><ul><li><p><span>International Education Week:  </span><span><strong>November 16-20, 2020</strong></span></p></li><li><p><span>All 2020 IEW events will be held virtually</span></p></li><li><p><span>International Education Week Website: </span><a href="https://iew.state.gov/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>https://iew.state.gov/</span></a></p></li></ul><p> </p><hr><p> </p><p><span>What’s Next?</span></p><p> </p><p><span>Planning Committee Search:</span></p><p><span>IES and the ELI are looking to form a planning committee for International Education Week, and we would like a member(s) of your department to be a part of it. This committee will organize and promote UMBC’s International Education Week. They will ensure the week creates a fun, engaging, and educational week of programming for all members of the UMBC community.     <div class="html-content"><div><u><strong>Programmer Intern Position</strong></u></div><div>for vibration data analysis and online portal development<br><br>ACTIVEcharge LLC is seeking a Programmer Intern for the development of vibration signal acquisition/analysis program. This position provides exciting opportunities to contribute to an integrated structural monitoring platform using battery-free wireless sensor nodes.<br><br><strong><u>Job Descriptions:</u></strong><br>• Program development: vibration signal conversion (analog to JSON) and merge to the vibration signal analysis code<br>• Display analyzed information in a web portal<br><br>The ideal candidate will have a <strong><u>BS or MS degree in computer science or electrical/mechanical engineering</u></strong>, <strong><u>with a strong background in programming skills</u></strong>. The candidate must have experience in handling sensor data conversion (analog to JSON) and commercial microcontroller kit (e.g., Arduino Yun) or single board computer (e.g., Raspberry Pi). The intern should also be able to create a web portal and display analyzed information in intuitive graphical formats. <Title>Continue the Discussion: Calling in the CWIT Community</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p><span>Earlier this summer, in response to national events, CWIT issued a </span><a href="http://cwit.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>Response to Racial Violence</span></a><span>, which called on all of us to take action, educate ourselves, and take care of one another as we participate in the struggle for greater racial equity in our country. We also held our first CWIT Student Discussions of Race, which started with a Mosaic Center [Free]dom Friday event on July 31, and a follow-up CWIT-only debrief on August 6.</span></p><p><span><br></span></p><p><span>We are continuing that discussion by inviting you to participate in the Mosaic Center’s next </span><a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/themosaic/events/84490" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>[Free]dom Friday</span></a><span> on </span><span>September 18, 2:30-4pm,</span><span> and another CWIT-only debrief on </span><span>September 24, 2:30-4pm</span><span>. height: auto;"></span></span></p><p><span> UMBC’s Reach Together Program</span></p><p><span>Tutor-Mentor Position Description</span></p><br><p><span>Overview</span><span> - UMBC’s Sherman Scholars Program, in collaboration with The Shriver Center, is formalizing the Reach Together Program (RTP) to engage UMBC students in mentoring and tutoring Baltimore City youth.  The program draws on one of UMBC’s core themes -- “reach together” -- to capture the collaborative approach to academic improvement with students and families and the focus on pushing boundaries and making big breakthroughs in students’ learning trajectories.   UMBC students will provide remote mentoring and tutoring services to support Baltimore City youth through biweekly, small-group tutoring to promote engagement, learner identity, and academic growth.  This model of the program is designed to support mathematics learning.  </span></p><br><p><span>Mentor-tutors will each provide targeted math tutoring for five students through a 9-week program (September 21 – November 20) with a week of training the week of September 14.  Tutor-mentors will collaborate in a tutoring cluster comprised of one school-based coordinating teacher, four tutors, and twenty students.  Participating students may include students from grades 3-10, contingent upon the finalized school partnerships.  The anticipated weekly commitment is six hours, inclusive of two hours of tutoring, a one-hour program meeting, a one-hour cluster meeting, and two hours of planning and family outreach.  Upon full completion of the program, mentor-tutors will receive a $1200 stipend.  </span></p><br><p><span>Key Responsibilities &amp;
