JOB DESCRIPTION
Essential Functions:
Looking for a person to provide companionate non-medical care to a wheelchair bound woman with dementia. The applicant should be a kind, compassionate, and responsible individual who would feel comfortable providing companionship to a client at the end of her life. Companionship activities may include conversation, playing games, reading to the client, watching TV, pushing the client’s wheelchair to the dining room, the courtyard, or bringing the client to various social/recreational activities offered by the facility. At times, it may also be necessary to advocate for the needs of the client.
Initially, we are looking for someone who would be available 8-12 hours a week. However, we are likely to want significantly more availability later on.
Job Requirements:
• A constellation of positive personality characteristics including, but not limited to: Patience, tact, kindness, empathy, emotional stability, trustworthiness, dependability, ability to work independently, and to solve problems if needed
• An interest in gerontology or nursing
• The ability to observe and record daily activities as well as the mental and physical functioning of the client
• The ability to act as a primary contact for out-of-state family members
• The ability to advocate for the client’s needs when necessary
• The ability serve as a liaison between the assisted living facility, the hospice organization, and family when necessary.
• Ability to start on (or near) April 23
Start Date: 4/23
Hours: 12+ hours a week, with some flexibility between 10am-6pm
Wages: $15/hr
