    <div class="html-content"><strong>What are Networked Cyber Physical Systems? </strong><div>Cyber-physical systems (CPS) are engineered systems that are built from, and depend upon, the seamless integration of computational algorithms and physical components. </div><div>More info can be found here: <a href="http://webs.wichita.edu/?u=netcpsreu&amp;p=/cps/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">http://webs.wichita.edu/?u=netcpsreu&amp;p=/cps/</a></div><div><br></div><div><div>Wichita State University's (WSU) Research Experiences for Undergraduates in NetCPS program is an opportunity for undergraduate students to spend a summer working with faculty researchers renowned in areas such as computer networks, mobile computing, wireless communications, and information security and privacy. A number of projects are available in diverse areas. Accepted students will work closely with WSU faculty and researchers on research problems with the potential for publications and significant impact on the future practice of various networked CPS.</div><div><strong>Students will:</strong></div><div><ul><li>Conduct cutting-edge research on networked CPS. </li><li>Spend 9 weeks in the Department of EECS at WSU, home to one of the very few M.S. programs in Computer Networking in the country.</li><li>Receive mentoring from renowned faculty in their fields.</li><li>Learn research skills through seminars and presentations throughout the summer and work with graduate students from around the world.</li></ul></div><div><strong><br></strong></div><div><strong>Benefits include:</strong></div><div><ul><li>A stipend of $500 a week (total $4500 for 9 weeks). </li><li>Furnished on-campus housing.</li><li>A meal allowance (worth $1080).</li><li>A travel allowance to come to and return from the site.</li><li>Social and professional development events throughout the site duration.</li></ul></div><div><br></div><div><strong>Suggested Majors include:</strong></div><div><em>*Note: These are merely suggestions.     <div class="html-content">The University of Maryland Department of Pediatrics, Growth and Nutrition Division is in need of Research Assistants to help with data collection, management, and organization for the <strong>Wellness Champions for Change</strong> project.     <div class="html-content"><strong>The original deadline (FEB 1, 2018) has been extended to FEB 16, 2018.</strong><div><br></div><div><div>The Curry School of Education at UVA would like to invite current junior students to take part in the SURP program. The 2018 SURP Application is now available, so please forward to interested students! </div><div><br></div><div>The Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) is a 10-week internship that provides undergraduates from underrepresented groups with valuable research and professional development experience.</div><div><br></div><div>SURP interns will:</div><div><ul><li>Present research at Leadership Alliance National Symposium (LANS) as well as a UVA research symposium.</li><li>Work hands-on in research with UVA faculty mentor(s) and graduate student mentor(s).</li><li>Participate in workshops on research methods and the grad school application process, and enroll in an intensive GRE preparation course.</li></ul></div><div><strong>Benefits:</strong></div><div><ul><li>A $3000 stipend and some travel and meal expenses.</li><li>Housing in a university residence hall.</li></ul></div><div><strong>Eligible interns must:</strong></div><div><ul><li>Be a member of a group that is underrepresented in educational research.</li><li>Be a current junior, with 2 semesters or less to complete after the internship.</li></ul></div><div>Other requirements are highlighted on the SURP website.</div><div><br></div><div><em>If you have any questions about finding summer research or you need assistance with you application, please contact Dr. April Householder, <a href="mailto:aprilh@umbc.edu">aprilh@umbc.edu</a>.</em></div></div></div>

    <div class="html-content">Did you know?<div><br></div><div>Five of the six cast members of the famed British comedy troupe "Monty Python's Flying Circus" developed their interest in performing while students at a university. Michael Palin and Terry Jones were both students at Oxford; John Cleese, Graham Chapman and Eric Idle at Cambridge. </div><div><br></div><div>All five performed onstage in university comedy sketch shows before moving on to television and film.</div><div><br></div><div><p><span>Want to conduct research and create something innovative? </span></p><p><span>Become a URA Scholar!<br></span><strong>Undergraduate Research Awards </strong><span>provide up to $1,500 to undergraduate students to support their research or creative work with a UMBC faculty mentor on an original project. <Title>It Came from University Research: Video Games!</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p><span>Did you know?</span></p><p><span>Technology research at </span><span>universities</span><span> has led to some developments that we all recognize.  The first graphical computer game, called OXO, was developed by A.S. Douglas at Cambridge </span><span>University </span><span>in 1952 for the Electronic Delay Storage Automatic </span>Calculator<span><span> (EDSAC) computer, which simulates the game, </span><span>noughts and crosses.</span></span><span> It was one of the first games developed in the early history of video games.</span><span> </span><span>The player entered their input using a rotary telephone </span><span>controller, selecting which of the nine squares on the board they wished to move next. </span><span>Douglas programmed the game as part of a thesis on human-computer interaction </span><span>at Cambridge.</span><span> </span></p><p><span>Want to conduct research and create something innovative? </span></p><p><span>Become a URA Scholar!<br></span><strong>Undergraduate Research Awards </strong><span>provide up to $1,500 to undergraduate students to support their research or creative work with a UMBC faculty mentor on an original project.
