Faculty Position in Learning Sciences/Learning with Technology
The Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership (TLPL) in the College of Education at the University of Maryland, College Park invites applications for an open-rank tenured/tenure-track position in Learning Sciences/Learning with Technology with primary responsibilities in the Technology, Learning and Leadership specialization. This will be a joint position with the College of Information Studies (Maryland’s iSchool), with the tenure home in the Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership. Located in the Washington, DC-Baltimore corridor, the University of Maryland, College Park is the flagship research university and a land grant institution committed to rigorous research, quality teaching and informed public service. We seek applicants with expertise and research interests in learning, motivation and assessment with technologies. The successful candidate (a) has published (or has demonstrated potential to publish) in leading refereed journals, conferences and respected professional outlets; (b) has a vision for conducting research that spans the Department and iSchool, (c) can develop collaborative relationships with diverse colleagues in the university and with school systems, state agencies, research institutes and policy networks; (d) has a record or vision for securing external funding; (e) is strongly committed to the diversity mission of the TLPL Department and iSchool; (f) has a record of internal and national service, depending on the level sought; and (g) can contribute to the preparation of scholars, teachers, and educational leaders. Candidates should have a doctorate by the time of appointment. Research specializations that include new and emerging learning-related areas, such as policy, digital media, maker spaces, Computer Science teacher education, and learning analytics, are of particular interest.
The Technology, Learning and Leadership (TLL) specialization is interdisciplinary, encouraging collaborative work, not only between the TLPL Department and the iSchool, but also with Computer Science and other disciplines in the University. Currently, faculty conduct research in several areas, including computational thinking, gaming, STEM education, assessment, mobile technologies, and wearable technology. Faculty in this specialization area have a strong track record of procuring research funding. Regular, collegial meetings for faculty and students across the university are hosted by The Center for Science and Technology in Education in the TLPL Department and the Human-Computer Interaction Lab in the iSchool. As the TLPL Department and iSchool are committed to increasing the diversity of the campus community, candidates are encouraged to identify their experiences in working with a diverse range of faculty, staff, and students, and their contributions to a climate of inclusivity.
Responsibilities will include teaching and advising Masters and Doctoral students in the TLL specialization and in the iSchool, teaching undergraduate preservice teachers, and leadership in the TLL program area.
