The James T. and Virginia M. Dresher Center for the Humanities supports and promotes research in the humanities at UMBC, in the Baltimore region, and beyond. With its Humanities Forum, it seeks to make UMBC’s impressive achievements in the humanities more widely known, while connecting UMBC researchers and students to important ongoing conversations about the humanities in the region, nation, and world. Through its support of the undergraduate Humanities Scholars Program the Dresher Center for the Humanities also helps to sponsor a generation of humanities thinkers for the future.
Founded in 1996, the Humanities Forum builds on a tradition of advancing the study of human thought and culture at UMBC and the Baltimore region. The
Forum offers the community a program of events that illustrate the richness of contemporary work in philosophy, history, culture, language, media, literature and the arts. Forum events present exciting new ideas and lively exchange, with a spirit of ongoing inquiry and conversation. These events are always free and open to the public.
