<Title>Center for Democracy &amp; Civic Life Intern Positions [PAID]</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><span>The Center for Democracy and Civic Life is looking for undergraduate and graduate students to join our team as 2024 - 2025 interns. Interns support the Center's programs and initiatives, working collaboratively with other members of the staff. Each intern has a particular area of focus, but all members of the team are involved in developing and producing the Center's work. Interns work a minimum of 10 hours per week during the academic year, with some variation to be determined. Internships will begin in late August 2024 and conclude in May 2025.</span><br><br><span>The internships available for 2024 - 2025 are:</span><br><br><strong>Evaluation intern </strong><span>(undergraduate and graduate students): Evaluation interns support the Center for Democracy and Civic Life's assessment, evaluation, and research projects; investigate topics related to Center for Democracy and Civic Life programs; and support the Center's contributions to national higher education initiatives.</span><br><br><strong>Special projects intern </strong><span>(undergraduate students only): Special projects interns support the planning and implementation of the Center for Democracy and Civic Life's programs and initiatives. Tasks may include finding and compiling information, preparing instructional materials, ensuring the availability of program supplies, creating and distributing promotional materials, helping with program setup and cleanup, and guiding and checking in guests at program venues.</span><br><br><strong>Political engagement intern </strong><span>(undergraduate and graduate students): Political engagement interns support programs that foster dialogue about current events and issues; connect UMBC students with the legislative process in Annapolis; engage them in politics and pathways to political leadership; and encourage their participation in local, state, and national elections.</span><br><br><span>All intern positions pay $15.00/hour to start.</span><br><br><span>All undergraduate and graduate students with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA are invited to apply.     <div class="html-content"><div><span><div><strong>What is Meet and Confer (M&amp;C)?</strong></div><p>Meet and Confer (M&amp;C) is a policy within the University System of Maryland (USM) that allows Graduate Assistants to participate in formal discussions with the administration regarding employment-related matters, including compensation and benefits. To learn more about M&amp;C, please visit the <a href="https://gsa.umbc.edu/meet-confer/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">UMBC website.</a></p><div><br></div><div><strong>M&amp;C Meetings- Spring '24</strong></div><p>This year, we have adopted a new approach by organizing separate M&amp;C meetings for each college at UMBC. This strategy is designed to address specific issues facing Graduate Assistants within individual colleges and departments in a more focused manner.     <div class="html-content"><div>
    			<p>CoLab is a 4-week <span><strong>paid</strong></span>
     summer narrative-based research internship for UMBC undergraduates. 
    Student interns will work on interdisciplinary project teams to conduct 
    research, create effective narratives, and develop public-facing final 
    products that support the goals of on and off campus community 
    organizations and scholars. Open to all majors, this is an excellent 
    opportunity for students in <strong>STEM</strong> fields to learn to tell effective stories and for students in <strong>social science and humanities</strong> fields to gain research and technical skills.</p>
    <p><strong>Participants receive a $3000 stipend and a tuition scholarship for a 3-credit internship course.</strong></p>
    <p><strong>Program Dates</strong><br>
    CoLab 2024 will be held during Summer Session One and meets in-person from <strong>Monday, June 3rd through Friday, June 28th</strong>.
     PLEASE NOTE: During these dates, student interns are required to 
    dedicate Monday through Friday from 9:30 am – 4:00 pm to the in-person 
    internship.</p>

Advisors meet with incoming students VIRTUALLY during the months of June-August in one-on-one sessions to plan out and register for classes. No previous experience is required, and we will provide all training necessary!</p><p><br></p></div><div><div><div>Besides compensation, this is a rare chance for graduate students to gain professional and interpersonal experience. Depending on your field, your time as a student may not open you up to many client-facing interactions, and this is a pathway to gaining that experience. GSA</span><span> </span><span>is co-sponsoring this event. This Change Makers Dinner will take place on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. in the Harbor Multipurpose Room.
