Medici Road Mosaic, new interdisciplinary research and
creative arts journal -- Call for Submissions
Medici Road, a DC-based non-profit committed to fostering racial equity, is launching the Medici Road Mosaic, a new interdisciplinary research and creative arts journal dedicated to exploring connections between education, housing, and public health through a racial equity lens. They hope to feature a variety of voices in this publication, including new scholars, community leaders, and artists who have a passion for social engagement and commentary. Submissions of original research articles, policy papers, case studies, creative arts, and more, are welcomed. Their goal is to foster interdisciplinary perspectives and dialogue and among authors who might not otherwise find themselves featured in the same collection. Specific guidelines can be found in the attached call for submissions.
Key Dates:
- Submission Deadline: June 15, 2024.
- Notification of Acceptance: No later than August 1, 2024.
- Publication Date: September, 2024.

Debuting in the Fall 2024 semester, the Department of English is now home to a new Critical Disability Studies minor.
Students in this interdisciplinary minor will encounter both the lived experiences of disability, past and present, and a critical analysis of intersecting systems of ableism, heteropatriarchy, white supremacy, colonialism, and capitalist violence.
To earn a minor in Critical Disability Studies, students will complete 15 credits of coursework: one introductory course (3 credits), two core courses (6 credits), and two elective courses (6 credits).

Each year, millions of people navigate the lived experience of mental illness.
UMBC's Office of Accessibility and Disability Services, in solidarity with Student Disability Services, joins the movement with its many departmental partnerships, to promote mental health awareness, fight stigma, and provide support. One in five people will have a mental health diagnosis in their lifetime. We are in this together, indeed, we are stronger together for mental health.

The Language, Literacy, and Culture Program is pleased to announce that Chrissie Reilly of LLC Cohort 13 successfully and skillfully presented her dissertation research proposal to her committee on April 23, 2024.
Chrissie's project is titled, “At Least it isn’t Afghanistan”: An oral history of U.S. Air Force support to Ukraine from Ramstein Air Base, Germany in 2022.
After her presentation, Chrissie had a substantive discussion with the committee about the next stages of her work. The committee agreed that the project is worthy of doctoral research and helped Chrissie consider some key issues as she moves forward into the research and writing.
