<Title>Economics department's Dennis Coates honored as first recipient of Coates-Humphreys NAASE Distinguished Award</Title>
<Tagline>From the North American Association of Sports Economists</Tagline>

    <div class="html-content"><p>In June 2025, the North American Association of Sports Economists (NAASE) announced the establishment of the Coates-Humphreys NAASE Distinguished Research Award, named for UMBC Department of Economics's <span>Dennis Coates</span> and West Virginia University’s Dr. Brad Humphreys. </p><p><br></p><p>Dr. Coates and Dr. Humphreys are the award’s inaugural winners.</p><p><br></p><p>The creation of the award honors Dr. Coates’s scholarship in sports economics, including serving as a founding member and President of NAASE and an extensive list of published papers and books. In 2022, he won the NAASE <span>Larry Hadley Service Award </span>which honors outstanding and unusual contributions and service to NAASE and the field of sports economics. </p><p><br></p><p>Congratulations Dr. Coates!</p><br></div>

    <p><strong>Public Relations Manager:</strong> Build campus partnerships; increase engagement.</p>
    </li>

    <p><strong>Operations Manager:</strong> Oversee logistics, attendance, and feedback forms.</p>
    </li>

    <p><strong>Secretary:</strong> Record minutes, maintain event records, support communication.</p>
    </li>
    <li>

    <p>Review and track applications using Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets</p>
    </li>

    <p>Maintain accurate records</p>

    <p>Attend all committee meetings</p>
    </li>

    <p>Communicate promptly and meet deadlines</p>
    </li>

    <p>One each from <strong>COEIT</strong>, <strong>CNMS</strong>, <strong>CAHSS</strong></p>
    </li>
    <li>
    <p>One <strong>PhD student in Public Policy</strong> as a Legislative Concerns Specialist</p>

    </ul><p><strong>Responsibilities:</strong></p><ul>

    <p>Attend one GA Town Hall or tabling event per semester</p>
    </li>

    <p>Submit monthly report updates and assist with GA Handbook or surveys</p>

    <div class="html-content"><div><br></div><div>Applications is open for Damon Runyon–St. Jude Pediatric Cancer Research Fellowship Award.</div><div><div>The Damon Runyon–St. Jude Fellowship supports bold early-career scientists conducting research with potential to transform the prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of pediatric cancers.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><strong>Eligibility:</strong></div><div><ul><li>Open to MD, PhD, MD/PhD, DDS, DVM, and DO holders</li><li>Research must be directly relevant to pediatric cancer (no need to be a pediatrician)</li><li>Application Deadline: August 15, 2025</li><li>4-year award | Starting at $70,000/year + expense &amp; child allowances</li></ul><div><br></div></div><div><div><strong>Level 1 Candidates :</strong> Applicants with Degree conferred between August 15, 2022 - August 15, 2025 or Joined Sponsor's Lab on or after August 15, 2023.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Level 2 Candidates :</strong> (Board Eligible Physician-Scientists)- Applicants must apply within two years of ending their clinical fellowship and anytime prior to their initial assistant professorship appointment (or equivalent); postdoctoral fellows, clinical fellows, and clinical instructors are eligible to apply.     <div class="html-content"><div><br></div><div>Registration opens today for our final teaching development workshops of the summer 2025.</div><div><br></div><div>Reflect on your career journey and sources of support using a living document known as a mentor map in this two-session online workshop designed for graduate students at any stage in their career who want to reflect on their career journey and sources of support in that journey.</div><div><br></div><div><div><strong>About this workshop</strong></div><div><strong><br></strong></div><div>Mentoring is critical to career success and persistence, and building and understanding mentoring networks will help students to both feel more confident and have tools to be successful in their career journeys. In this workshop, participants will reflect on their career journey and sources of support in that journey using a living document known as a mentor map.
