A: I am a graduating senior, coming close to the 4 year mark.
Q: What is your current title (job or student organization position)?
A: I am a Resident Assistant and the McNair Scholars Web Master.
Q: In 12 words or less, what role(s) do you play on campus?
A: I am a Residential Life team member, peer counselor, and a friend.
Q: What aspect of your UMBC role(s) do you enjoy most?
A: I have been able to continuously learn from the paraprofessional community as a Resident Assistant. From summer and winter training to the RA class, this job is full of ways to engage in self learning and development. As a McNair Scholar I have had the opportunity to engage in research and travel, I have made some wonderful friends and memories through my involvement. As a webmaster I learn about how UMBC is using prominent new technologies to make our campus more web friendly and I get to design a space that thousands of people will interact with.
Q: What is the most important or memorable thing you learned in college/have learned at UMBC?
A: In college, little things seem significant. Wear the wrong shirt and you're labeled a loser for life. Plant a wet one on your girlfriend and once you break up, everybody whispers you're the worst kisser ever. As cliche as it is, life goes on. College is the time where I am exposed to the most amount of people that have the potential to be my friends. So I have to find the person I want to become by exposing myself to all different sorts of people, every chance I get.
At UMBC, I have learned how important initiative is. As I grow up, less people are telling me what to do. It's all up to me to get the job done. I have to start taking charge of my own life because ultimately what I become will be a product of my own choices and decisions.
