<div class="html-content"><p>Dear Graduate Students, Postdoctoral Fellows, and Members of the PROMISE Community,</p>
<p>We are in the process of developing a new program with collaborators, Tecnológico de Monterrey, in Monterrey, Mexico. We sent out an initial email to gauge interest in a new visiting professor program, and the response was overwhelming! We’re so glad to hear that you are interested in this opportunity as a pathway to your career.</p>

Everyone from students to faculty to staff - UMBC creates an environment that allows you to passionate about your interests and do something with that passion! That makes UMBC such an exciting place to work and go to school.</span><br><strong><span><br></span></strong><span><strong><span>Q: </span><span><span>What is one way you have worked with others to make a positive difference at UMBC or in another community?</span></span></strong></span></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><span><span><span><br></span></span><span><span>A: </span></span>I am truly passionate about making the transition a smooth process for new students and their families. In my first year at UMBC, I was able to redesign the Family Handbook. We turned it into a calendar with useful dates as well as resources for family members. It is important to make sure the family members are viewed as partners in their student's transition to UMBC. The calendar even won a national award from the Associate for Orientation, Retention, and Transition (NODA).</span></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><span><br></span></div><strong><span>Q: Complete this sentence: "I am a big fan of __________"</span></strong></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><span><br></span></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><span><span><span>A: </span></span>My dog, Kermit, Baltimore sports teams, baking, and running (I run so I can eat!).</span></div><div><span><br></span></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><strong><span>Q: Do you have any UMBC stories, little-known facts about UMBC, favorite spots on campus, or anything else you’d like to share?</span></strong></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><span><br></span></div><span><span><span>A: </span></span>We have a cool UMBC photo collage in the Admissions office that is made up of photos from each decade. As one of 180 total college students that will be a part of one of six separate trips; San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, San Diego, Baltimore, and New York, I have accepted the challenge to raise over $4500 before we are able to hit the road this summer. Our mission is to raise awareness, unite communities, and inspire hope towards the eradication of cancer. We will be visiting cancer patients at hospitals and cancer centers, as well as raising awareness about Ulman Cancer Fund’s mission in the towns we stop in during our trek across the country.</span><br><span><br>My dad has been battling Hodgkin's lymphoma for the past 10 years which is only one of the reasons why this trip is so meaningful to me. <Title>UMBC's Hidden Talents</Title>

In fact, I do this with many historical facts and events. I absorb important dates and somehow link them with the event so that they are mutually reinforcing: the number takes on the nature or "feel" of the event, and I also see the number whenever I think about that particular piece of history (e.g., April 18, 1906 and the San Francisco Earthquake are connected in my mind, because the date reminds me of the event, and vice versa).   I'm not sure why or how.</span><br><br><span>One thing I do know is that I do not often have the opportunity to take advantage of this skill--particularly recalling the order of and information about the Presidents--unless I am participating in a trivia contest. When this skill does somehow enter conversation with others, many people are astonished. Viewing history this way is so second nature to me, however, that it often surprises me that people do not experience events or history in this manner. </span><br><span><br></span><span>It does make me curious, though, about all of the hidden abilities and talents we are carrying, which make us more fascinating to each other and add to the diversity present within our community.  </span><br><span><br></span><span>So let's hear from all of your inner superheroes--what are your hidden talents?
