If your research interests relate to any of the following topics (or if you'd be interested in potentially leading a future discussion related to feminism, social justice, or gender/women's issues), we want to hear from you! </span></div><div><br></div><div><ul><li><span>Whiteness and white girl/womanhood (Tuesday, September 22nd from 4-5pm) </span></li><li><span>Women and sports (TBD for early November) </span></li></ul></div><div><br></div><div>The Women's Center's roundtable discussion series explores various issues and identities through a feminist lens. These conversations are led by a panel of faculty, staff, and student participants who provide insight and context to encourage a critical dialogue.     <div class="html-content"><h5><br></h5><h5>The K. Patricia Cross Future Leaders Award<br>Deadline for receipt of materials: October 1, 2015</h5><div><br></div><div>The K. Patricia Cross Future Leaders Award recognizes graduate students who show exemplary promise as future leaders of higher education; who demonstrate a commitment to developing academic and civic responsibility in themselves and others; and whose work reflects a strong emphasis on teaching and learning.</div><div><br></div><div>The award honors the work of K. Patricia Cross, Professor Emerita of Higher Education at the University of California, Berkeley.</div><div><br></div><div>Please go to the <a href="http://www.aacu.org/crossaward" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><strong>K. Patricia Cross Future Leaders page</strong></a> for complete information.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Eligibility</strong></div><div><span>All doctoral level graduate students who are planning a career in higher education are eligible, regardless of academic department. Graduate students in fields where the Master's degree is the terminal degree, such as the MFA in art, are also eligible. (Nominees must hold student status in January 2016.) </span></div><div><br></div><div>Applicants must demonstrate:</div><div><br></div><div><ol><li><span>Leadership ability or potential for exercising leadership in teaching and learning, with a strong commitment to academic and civic responsibility; and</span></li><li><span>Leadership or potential leadership in the development of others as leaders, scholars, and citizens.</span></li></ol></div><div><br></div><div><strong>Nomination Process</strong></div><div><span>A faculty member or administrator must nominate the student, with a supporting letter from a second faculty member or administrator. The following materials must be submitted for an application to be considered:</span></div><div>   </div><div><ol><li><span>a nomination letter from a faculty member or administrator;</span></li><li><span>a supporting letter from a second faculty member or administrator;</span></li><li><span>a statement from the student indicating how he or she meets the award criteria;</span></li><li><span>a copy of the student's curriculum vitae.</span></li></ol></div><div><span>Nominations can be submitted anytime, but <strong>no later than October 1, 2015.</strong> Nominees must also complete an online form with all contact information. Only complete nominations will be considered.</span></div><div><br></div><div><strong>The Award</strong></div><div><br></div><div>The K. Patricia Cross Future Leaders Award provides financial support for graduate students to attend AAC&amp;U's 2016 Annual Meeting, which will be held in Washington, DC, January 20-23, 2016.     <div class="html-content"><h5><br></h5><h5>The UMBC Graduate School Dissertation Fellowship<br><span>Application Deadline:  Friday, July 17, 2015</span></h5><div> </div><div>The Dissertation Fellowship is designed to provide doctoral candidates at UMBC an opportunity to devote the necessary concentration and attention towards finishing the writing of their dissertations.  The Fellowship is specifically designed for students with full-time jobs off-campus, for those without any financial support who are making steady progress with their writing, and for whom having additional time and resources would permit them to complete the process more expeditiously.  This Fellowship is not available as an option for students with available graduate assistantship support.</div><div> </div><div>The Dissertation Fellowship could provide promising doctoral candidates with financial support so that they may reduce their current obligations and partially offset any reductions in salary or increases in expenses.  No additional work assignments other than work on the dissertation are to be associated with this support. </div><div> </div><div>Priority will be given to students who demonstrate that the Fellowship will allow them the needed time to complete their writing and to make revisions in time to defend the work within a realistic but expeditious time frame.  Awards will be made to students who have demonstrated a commitment to provide at least 20 hours per week for an entire academic semester to writing the dissertation. </div><div> </div><div>Dissertation Fellowship awards are available for Fall 2015. The duration of an award is for one semester.  The maximum level of support for Fall is a total stipend of $8,239.88 per Fellowship plus tuition remission for two credits of 899. </div><div> </div><div>To be considered for a Dissertation Fellowship, the Ph.D. candidate must:</div><div><ul><li><span>be in good academic standing;</span></li><li><span>provide a letter of support from the Chair of the Dissertation Committee that</span></li></ul></div><div>1)  describes the state of the dissertation and the probable impact of receipt of the Fellowship on the progress toward completion; and,</div><div>2) verifies that no UMBC-administered financial support is available for the student;</div><div><br></div><div><ul><li><span>provide, if employed outside the university, written evidence from the student’s employer indicating the employer’s willingness to reduce job time and duties in order for the student to participate in the Fellowship;</span></li><li><span>submit a dissertation abstract of no more than two pages in length; and</span></li><li><span>submit a 1-2 page management plan signed by the Chair of the Dissertation Committee describing the status of the dissertation work, the steps required to complete the work, and the feasible time line for completion.</span></li></ul></div><div><strong>Applications for Fall 2015 Dissertation Fellowships will be accepted by the Office of the Associate Dean of the Graduate School until 4:30 p.m., Friday, July 17, 2015.</strong>  A committee consisting of three members of the Graduate School Leadership Team will review applications and announce recipients of the Fellowship by July 24, 2015.  Selection will be based on the extent of convincing evidence that the award will provide the critical element need to complete the dissertation</div><div><br></div><div>Download<a href="http://umbc.us3.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=0143f81a618e5e9295445c93c&amp;id=d5495c2757&amp;e=f3f490f4bd" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Fall 2015 Dissertation Fellowship Application</a></div><div><br></div></div>

Both postings are 20 hours a week, 12-month positions that include tuition remission, on-campus housing, 10 meals a week while the university is in session, and a financial stipend as compensation. In general terms, CHS can be viewed as a movement to examine and interrogate the power dynamics of defining, making and using ‘heritage’ from the local to global levels.<div><br></div><div>The following events may be of interest for most students in the LLC program:</div><div><br></div><div><strong>1)</strong> Registration is open for the <strong>4th International Conference on Intangible Heritage</strong> - September 21-23.
