    <div>Annual Meeting</div>
    <div><em>ASSOCIATION FOR HUMANIST SOCIOLOGY</em></div>

    <div> </div>
<h5>Imagining Possibilities: Humanists Connecting to Better Fight Oppression</h5>
    <div> </div>
<div>As an organization the Association for Humanist Sociology (AHS) unapologetically stands for justice by working to make the world a safer and equitable place for all of its inhabitants. AHS members unceasingly reflect on our organization’s evolution as a collective body so that we may more consciously achieve our aims. AHS was established in 1976 by a group of sociologists, educators, scholars, and activists with the intent to help create a world that promotes social and economic justice, equality, and human decency.</div>
    <div> </div>
<div>No single individual or organization could possibly imagine a path that guarantees us a successful resolution of the oppressive challenges we now confront. New and more intense oppressive conditions require brave new commitments and energy to counter them.</div>
    <div> </div>
<div>With this foresight AHS will hold its 2017 annual conference in Havana, Cuba so that we may thoroughly immerse ourselves into processes which broaden our vision as academics and activists in the world. As such, AHS has partnered with the Faculty of Latin American Social Scientists at the University of Havana to engage in critical dialogue pertaining to a myriad of academic and activist nexuses.</div>
    <div> </div>
<div>In keeping with the conference theme we are seeking papers, panels, and plenaries that engage with how class, race, gender, and sexuality establish and maintain inequalities and domination in the United States and beyond. The upward concentration of wealth has expanded exponentially, threatening the sustainability of our eco-system, community, the dignity and joy of personhood, and the survival of humanity. The conference situates the importance of examining this set of developments with an eye toward moving in newly imagined directions.</div>
    <div> </div>
<div>We encourage potential participants to register early for this unique conference so travel and lodging arrangements can be made as early as possible. For additional information about AHS and our conference visit our webpage: <a href="https://www.humanist-sociology.org">https://www.humanist-sociology.org</a>. Deadline to submit a 250 word abstract or proposal for a session is April 30th. Submissions should be sent to <a href="mailto:AHSCuba2017@gmail.com">AHSCuba2017@gmail.com</a>.</div>

    <li>Self-awareness,</li>

<li>Appreciation of differences, even if you don’t agree</li>
