    <div class="html-content"><div><p>During this time of continued uncertainty and change we are faced with many stressors that impact the way we live &amp; work affect our ability to take care of ourselves and others.  We need tools, frameworks, resources and support from our community to steady our individual and collective boats so that we may bring the best version of ourselves to our life and our work in supporting students.<br></p><p>Join us for a series of Caring For Yourself &amp; Supporting Students Connections Group sessions. This is a time to share, support, and learn from each other. Each session will explore a shared resource, tool, or practice to explore in advance and/or during our session, encourage open discussion space to engage, learn, and support each other, and formulate self-care and/or other-care strategies to help support resilience &amp; well-being for ourselves and the students we serve.</p><p>See <a href="https://hbsp.harvard.edu/inspiring-minds/4-self-care-strategies-to-support-students" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">October's article</a> and we hope to see you there! Conversations will be facilitated by  Bruce Herman, Director of UMBC Retriever Integrated Health, and Jill Wardell, Director of UMBC's Workplace Learning, OD &amp; Wellness department. <Title>Women of Color STEM Digital Conference Online</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p>The annual Women of Color (WOC) STEM conference is taking place <strong>VIRTUALLY, October 7-9, 2021</strong>. The conference features leadership and professional development programs in addition to a career fair where many top national and local companies in the STEM fields are actively recruiting STEM interns and professionals.</p><p> </p><p>You will need to register to participate. Open to <strong>ALL</strong> students! Deadline to register is <strong>Wednesday, October 6th</strong>. <em>You can still register to participate after the deadline. However it will take about 15-30 minutes for registrations to be activated and to gain access to the platform.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p>·       The job fair is <strong>free</strong>! To participate in the <strong>job fair only</strong>, click on <strong>register and proceed</strong> as a “<strong>job seeker</strong>” (top right).</p><p>·       The fee for attending the full conference is only $25 when you use the promotion code (NOTE: The code will be posted here at a later date). Below is a snippet of the content of the discussion: </span></h1></div><div><strong><br></strong></div><div><strong>Reposted from Faculty Development Center:</strong></div><div><br></div><div>Do you cringe at the thought of “returning to normal” this year? Even if not, </div><div>is it surprising to learn that several students are bracing themselves for, or currently struggling with, what it means to “return to normal?” Let’s dig deeper into this phenomenon unearthed by the ongoing pandemic; flexibility and accessibility allowed for a more inclusive learning environment, yet now these privileges may be disappearing. This session in the Diverse Classroom Series asks participants to reflect on the ways the “normal” college classroom in 2019 may have oppressed our diverse student body. Participants will gain perspective on how the sudden universal need for remote learning “evened the playing field” for some learners, especially those with intersectional identities.     <div class="html-content"><span>Dear Colleagues,</span><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>The Center for Global Engagement and the International Education Week planning committee would like to invite you to participate in </span><a href="https://iew.state.gov/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>International Education Week</span></a><span> (IEW) 2021 taking place November 15-19!</span><div><span><p> </p><p><span>A joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Education, IEW is an opportunity for campuses to celebrate international education in all its forms: curricular, extracurricular, formal, non-formal and everything in between. International Education Week is for everybody!</span></p><p> </p><p><span>The International Education Week committee is encouraging all areas of campus to get involved in IEW 2021. We want to celebrate our international community, support international initiatives on campus, and share international experiences with domestic students and communities they might not otherwise be exposed to. </span></p><p> </p><p><span>As you begin thinking about IEW, consider the following: </span></p><ul><li><p><span>Events come in a variety of forms, either virtual or in-person. Examples include: presentations, lectures on research or current events, activities (diy/fun), workshops and more. </span></p></li><li><p><span>As you propose an event you will be able to indicate which audiences you would like to target. This could be faculty, staff, current students, prospective students (domestic and international) and/or the wider UMBC community. </span></p></li><li><p><span>Interested in hosting, but not sure how to get started? Perman will host a town hall on campus <strong>this Friday, October 1, 2021</strong>, from noon to 1 p.m.  All students, faculty, staff, and alumni are invited to attend in person or virtually to ask questions about UMBC’s upcoming presidential transition.<br><br>As he shared in his <a href="https://t.e2ma.net/click/rrsuah/30zzebc/b7pqk6" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">recent message</a> to the UMBC community, the Chancellor is eager to hear about the background and experience that the UMBC community wants in its next leader, as well as thoughts about the future vision and priorities for the institution.<br><br>The town hall will be hosted in the Retriever Activities Center with limited and physically distanced seating.
