Deadline is Monday to join

What are Writing Accountability Group, or WAGs at UMBC?
What: Writing Accountability Groups (WAGs) are voluntary and facilitated by fellow UMBC graduate students
Who: WAGs are comprised of a group of graduate students (usually 4-8 participants per group) interested in developing writing habits and accountability
Why: Develop habits of writing every day for a short, manageable period of time by setting goals and being accountable to WAG peers
When: WAG groups meet once a week for 60-90 minutes for 10-12 weeks. The group finds a weekly time mutually convenient to all group members.
Where: The group decides on a mutually convenient location to meet, whether in person or online via WebEx or other video conferencing platform

Center and Institute Departmentally-Engaged Research (CIDER)

Dear Colleagues,
To deepen the relationships between UMBC's centers/institutes and UMBC's departments, applications are invited for a new opportunity: the Center and Institute Departmentally-Engaged Research (CIDER) seed funding program.
CIDER principal investigators must hold primary appointments in a UMBC unit that is not degree-granting (e.g., they are primarily appointed to conduct research and/or creative activities in a UMBC center or institute). Proposals must also include at least one Co-I whose primary appointment is in a degree-granting department. Proposals are encouraged from all disciplines and combinations thereof.
Proposals are due December 2, 2022. We anticipate making three $50k awards this cycle.

While institutions are placing increased focus on the pursuit of Research Center funding, these complex and large-scale grant efforts require extensive preparation and administrative support. In this webinar, we will explore the early stages of preparing for Center-level proposals as the lead applicant. We will cover: - Assessing strategy and competitiveness for Center funding
- Identifying collaborators and establishing a research team
- Determining the theme for a Center in line with institutional/funder goals
- Developing a plan for proposal development
