This experience will provide you with a competitive edge as you apply your education, talent and skills in a variety of settings within the DHS enterprise. During this half-day learning opportunity, attendees will:</p><ul><li>Increase their understanding of data curation practices to make data more Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR).</li><li>Apply the CURATE(D) model to a data deposit.</li><li>Meet like-minded colleagues who are interested in developing or enhancing curation practices at their institutions.</li></ul><p>This will be an interactive workshop with breakout rooms and small group activities. Attendees will need access to appropriate technology (computer, microphone, webcam, speakers/headphones, web browsers, high speed internet) and come prepared to participate.</p><p><a href="https://www.lib.umn.edu/services/data" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span><span><br></span></span></a></p><p><span><strong>Michelle Yee </strong>is a Senior Data Catalog Coordinator in Data Services at the New York University (NYU) Health Sciences Library. In addition to maintaining the institutional data catalog, Michelle provides assistance with biomedical research data management, access, and sharing. Through training and outreach, she advises researchers on Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR) data sharing options. She holds a MPH from NYU School of Global Public Health.</span></p><p><span><strong><br></strong></span></p><p><span><strong>Marley Kalt</strong> is a Data Management Consultant at JHU Data Services(link is external) of Johns Hopkins University Sheridan Libraries. The department provides consultation and training on data access, data analysis, geospatial research and data management planning, and operates the JHU Data Archive(link is external), an open access data sharing platform for the JHU community. Kalt advises on data management planning and curates research data for a variety of disciplines and data types.</span></p><p><span><strong><br></strong></span></p><p><span><strong>Shanda Hunt, </strong>MPH, is the Public Health Library Liaison and Data Curation Specialist. Shanda collaborates with public health faculty, staff, and students to find, preserve, and share information.     <div class="html-content"><div>The LLC Program is pleased to announce that <strong>Jamie Gillan</strong> of Cohort 21 successfully and skillfully presented her dissertation research proposal to her committee on October 13, 2022.</div><div><br></div><div>Jamie's project is titled, <em><em>Collaborative Storywork in Higher Education. <br></em></em></div><div><br></div><div>After her presentation, Jamie had a substantive discussion with the 
    committee about the next stages of her work. Her committee agreed that 
    the project is worthy of doctoral research and helped Jamie consider

<Title>Graduate Assistant Opportunity - Qualitative Research</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><span><p><span>Full-Time Graduate Assistant (20 hrs/week) in Program Evaluation</span></p><p><span> in the Office of Graduate Student Development &amp; Postdoctoral Affairs </span></p><p><span>Position Responsibilities</span><span>: We seek a full-time graduate assistant (GA) to join our team and assist with multiple initiatives to enhance the recruitment, retention, and advancement of underrepresented undergraduates, graduate students, and postdocs at UMBC and across an Alliance of University Systems. Specifically, we are seeking a GA who can assist with program evaluation for a cluster of related programs, such as PROMISE (supporting underrepresented graduate students in STEM), the AGEP PROMISE Academy Alliance (diversifying biomedical faculty through recruiting and training underrepresented postdocs) , and RISE-UPP (Reimagining STEM Equity Utilizing Postdoc Pathways, which expands the PROMISE Academy Alliance to more institutions and disciplines). The GA will provide administrative and/or technological support to the Internal Evaluator who is working on these grant-funded educational activities. Both quantitative and qualitative research methods will be used to collect and analyze data for program evaluation, implementation, and post-program reporting.</span></p><br><p><span>Qualifications:</span><span>  You must be self-motivated, independent, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks at once.  Experience and ability to work with numerical data, statistical software (such as SPSS, Qualtrics, SAS, NVivo) and Microsoft Office products is required. This position also necessitates strong written communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to meet tight deadlines. A genuine commitment to diversity and inclusion is preferred.</span></p><br><p><span>Reports to</span><span>: Robin Cresiski, Assistant Vice Provost for Graduate Student Development and Postdoctoral Affairs (50%) and Wendy Carter-Veale, Director of Social Science Research (50%). </span></p><br><p><span>Benefits</span><span>: This position includes a stipend, health insurance, and tuition remission. </span></p><br><p><span>Funding Sources:</span><span> National Science Foundation.</span></p><span>Application:  </span><span>Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Many graduate programs encourage their students to publish to obtain an advanced degree, but it is usually at the discretion of the research advisors to guide students through this conundrum.</div><div><br></div><div>How do you start the process of writing a publication? What are impact factors and how do you decide if your data is impactful enough to be submitted to a particular publication or journal? How do you get your publication fee covered?</div><div><br></div><div>To help students through the publishing conundrum, we invited a STEM faculty panel at UMBC from our COEIT and CNMS colleges to discuss publication-related topics.
