UMBC now has trial access to the BBC Archives.
British Online Archives provides access to two collections: BBC handbooks, accounts and annual reports (1927-2002). Included here are financial data, reviews of each year's public service broadcasts, detailed broadcast schedules, audience research and commentaries and editorials.
The second collection offers access to the records of the Listener Research Department from its inception in 1936 through the years of World War II until the establishment of the first national television station in 1950. Included here are weekly audience summaries, Audience Reaction Reports, policy documents, and early attempts at market research.
For off-campus access, please login via VPN first (http://vpn.umbc.edu) and follow the link to the UMBC Library Homepage. Then follow the link under "News & Events" on the Library's homepage to return to this post and click on the "View Website" button to access the database. For more info on remote access, see http://aok.lib.umbc.edu/services/remoteaccess.php .
